I want to buy an external harddrive ... to backup my pictures/movies etc that I have stored on my laptop (through picassa if that makes any difference:o). I have no knowledge of them ... does anyone know of one that is good value for money, and that is not too big (portable?) . Thanks a lot.

You can choose from these, they are all USB powered so no other power supply needed and they are small.

Txs for quick reply.... much appreciated. They look a good price too.

So should I go for the highest GB?... ... Would you know how many many photos could be stored on a 120gb?... Thanks again....

probably more than u'll ever take
    assuming 2MB / pic = 500 / gb

    120 x 500 = 60,000!

I got an Iomega 500 GB hardrive in Peats for €109. Even though it is the size of a book, I don't think you'd carry it around with you cos it is quite heavy. But a great price for that amount of memory. I'll never use it up.

If you had to choose between the Iomega Portable 160GB USB2.0 portable Hard Drive in Peats for EUR89, or the Western Digital one mentioned above via DABs at EUR84 (plus EUR5 ish postage), or via Pixmania for EUR 89 (incl postage),which would you go for?
Can get a Seagate or the WD one via amazon.co.uk for about GBP66/EUR95, but they don't seem as good value.
Alternatively, I could pick one up in US for $105/EUR75. Does not seem worth the saving - i.e. risk of buying one from US that breaks, v's comeback via Irish supplier
    Any thoughts?

Amazon.co.uk won't ship it to Ireland though.

Can get it sent to brother in law, who flys over every few weeks.... And am going to US in about 6 weeks...So have some options.
    Extra: What about this:

Should cost EUR80 max in Maplins...Any thoughts
