Hello everyone, I'm on the lookout for a new TV, and I'm trying to get my head around what I need to look for.

I presume the main specs I should be aware of are response time, brightness, and contrast ratio. Is there a bare minimum I should adhere to?

Is there a hierarchy when it comes to brand names? I was looking at LG TV's which seem to be priced much lower than their equivalent Samsung/Panasonic models? Should I stay away?

ps. I have my eye on this LG model

The hierarchy in lcd tv's are sony and panasonic in my opinion. The other good brands are LG, samsung, philips, toshiba etc... the well known brands. When buying an lcd tv at this size you're often only paying extra for brand name. Any of the well known brands will be fine, including LG.I have an LG by the way-32LC46.Great tv.Then again what brand you get should depend on exactly what your priorities are, e.g Standard def tv, Gaming....

The Panasonic TX-26LDX70 is best in class in 26" variety. Came out top of the pile in all the mag reviews.

It was on sale last week and after a quick glance at their website, I found these...

    JVC
    Daewoo

The Panasonic is showing at £450 but I'll check that in-store tonight.

The panasonic listed on the asda site is the 26LMD70, not the 26LXD70. A brief search says that the only difference is the viewing angle. does that justify the price difference?

I went into Asda tonight and it's there for £349 stg.

I got a few dodgy photos with my mobile.

thats the LXD7, not LXD70.. the LXD7 is the basic panasonic model. the equivalent irish model to that is LE7.

the panasonic tx26lx70 is around the €899 mark http://www.allianceelectric.ie/products/tv/plasmalcd/tx26lx70.htm

    My bad.

    I missed the "0".

Is this still a good buy?

i know i may sound a bit pedantic but that "0" does make a huge difference!!

yeah its not too bad, the tv retails at around the € 650-€700 mark in dublin.

    Hi

Just got a BEKO 26" for €447, I got it after comparing alot of them on the net and face or side by side.

So far very happy, good refreash rate and the sound is a big surprise as it's load and good.

Its got HDI/VGA 2 Scarts Svideo Etc and for the cost it does the job for a 2nd tv for kids games and my PC.:)

I wont spend more than 500 on a small screen as for an extra few hundred you can get alot more.

    All I know is
Samsungs 'Great Screen but bad speakers'.
LG's have had issues with production with the old 'friday afternoon/Monday morning issue'. In other words 1 out of 10 could be a problem

    And thats my 10 cents
