Problems playing videos on Nokia 6300?

I recently bought a Nokia 6300. My brother has a Nokia 6233. When he sends me video attachments via bluetooth they don't work. I get a message saying 'unable to open file'. My mate has a Sony Ericsson and when he sent me videos they worked fine. There is no problem receiving images, though. When I send him videos by bluetooth they work fine on his phone. Also, when my bro sends videos to my mate's phone (Sony Ericsson), they work ok.

I know my phone is not faulty because my brother tried same with another guy who has a 6300 and the same thing happened.

I've tried getting him to send videos to another phone, then on to me, but it doesn't work. Plus, any videos that were made with my mate's phone, then forwarded to my brother and sent on to me, actually work. It's nothing to do with video length either. I've tried Nokia helpline, they said there should be no problem, and can't see why it's not working.

I'm just wondering if anyone else has had similar problems, and if anyone could suggest anything? There is obviously some problem with compatibility. Basically I can't play any videos that my brother has recorded with his 6233 phone. I reckon the problem is with his phone, perhaps there is some setting that needs to be changed? Any help greatly appreciated!

the 6300 is obviously not compatible with the video format on the 6233?? has your brother tried to send you a short video by mms to see if that works?

I have the 6300 and as far as I can remember, it can only play .3gp files. So, you need to figure out what format the 6233 is saving/playing videos in. If it's not .3gp, then that's your problem.

Yes, you're right, it can only play .3gp. I've tried looking into that, and the 6233 records in the same format - .3gp! So they're both the same format.

Cheers for the idea. I haven't tried that. I'll give it a go later. Pity they can't be transmitted by Bluetooth anyway.

could be of course that one phone is version 1.2 and other has bluetoooth version 2 ? dont know if that would affect what is transferred by bluetooth??

    Thanks, Foggy lad,

That's 2 things for me to look into. I'll have a look at my brother's phone tonight and check this out.

    No, that shouldn't matter.

Think of it in terms of dial up 56k modem and say, satellite broadband. Both of them allow you download stuff, just they use different techniques. The end result is a file/webpage/whatever, so the data doesn't get changed in any way, it's just the delivery method is different.

    Guys,

Thanks for the help, but I've actually figured it out myself. What is really wrong is that my brother is recording in a higer resolution than what my phone is capable of recording. Mine only has res of either 128x96 or 176x144. If he records in either of these settings it will work. But his 6233 has 4 res. settings, 2 being higher - if he uses either of these 2 higher settings they won't work on my phone. Pity that the 6300 doesn't have the other two settings.

I think this is a bit of a f*ck up on Nokia's part. You would think with a newer model that there wouldn't be such a compatibility problem. I could ask him to record in either of the lower formats I suppose, but he's v. particular about picture quality, and higher res means better quality. Ah well...

    Cheers
