COD4: Problem finding MultiPlayer games

Hi folks, after completing the single player game I am trying to get into MP mode on COD4.

I can log in ok - my PSNetwork account is recognised and I can see one of the leaderboards - but the system searches for multiplayer games to join and doesn't find anything. I have left it for 15mins a number of times and no joy at all.

I can run MP sessions on Warhawk and all the other demos that I have with no problem at all so I am stumped. My PS3 is connected wirelessly to my Eircom router.

I understand there is some patch on the way but not sure if it is designed to fix my particular problem. Anyway, there seems to be a huge number of Irish gamers getting on no problem.

I have a new 40Gb PS3 and my COD4 is a local version. Can someone pls help me trouble shoot the issue so i can get on and into the action?

    thanks in advance.

hey. my brother got COD4 for christmas and we start playing online stephens day. we had the same problem. it took ages to find a game. it eventually does though so you need to leave it searching for a game and it will get one. you will probably have to do this for a day or two but once your rank gets up to 8 or 9 you can do the Ground War option. this let up to 18 players join a game and i found that it was much quicker at joining those games.

so in summary. leave it searching and you will eventually get a game. once your rank moves up, try some of the other game options.

Gret - will try that - thanks

Yeah you basically just have to sit it out. But if it starts taking more than 5 minutes to find a game you should quit the lobby and goto Find Servers again. The patch does fix this problem.

    when is this patch out?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 577 ✭✭✭3102derek

    hi

make sure you have all the ports open on your router.
once i did this, i can join games no problem at all.
only ever takes about 1 min to find one.

do a search for port forwading and you will find all the details.

    regards

    derek

Woo now, not all! Just the ones stated above. Could get yourself into some nasty things if you open all of them.

    sorry i replied in a hurry.:D

there are 7 ports listed on the activision website that just need to be opened.

    cheers

thanks guys. I will check the Activision site

I have left the machine searching for games to join for 45mins or more now and no result. it must be something to do with the Ports i guess.

i have a Netopia wireless router from Eircom - probably about 2yrs old now. Can anyone give me simple steps to go thru to open these ports? I expect it should be pretty simple but i dunno where to start.

    thanks, D

also add in psn6 to cover ports 3074-3075 as it's not on the list .

ya dont have to open all the ports on that site for cod4 to work just 3075 and 3075 will do

When you're opening the ports on the Eircom netopia router, do you *have* to go through the first stage as outlined on that Port Forwarding website, about changing your connection to a static IP instead of Dynamic? I tried that before and couldn't get that to work.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,534 ✭✭✭✭guil

no ya shouldnt have to it should work with just givin the ps3 a static ip

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,534 ✭✭✭✭guil

yeah i just checked there my dhcp is still enabled on my netopia router and i'm with eircom

Cool thanks. I ennabled those last two ports there for COD4 on the PS3 IP, and it came back and told me I had a NAT Conflict because the same range of ports was already in use on a different device. I've got ports open for XBox Live too and turns out its the same ports. It told me I'd have to disable the XBox Live service on the router. I just tried to add the PSN ports again without touching XBox live, and it added them fine this time without the error message. Dunno if it'll do anything though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,534 ✭✭✭✭guil

    did ya enable them though

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,742 ✭✭✭Branoic

Yeah, I've now got one XBox Live service enabled on UDP 88 and 3074, hosted by my XBox 360 IP, and I've got six PSN services enabled, one of which is UDP 3074 - 3075, on my PS3 IP. Both are enabled at the same time. I haven't had a chance to test my connections on either console yet though, so I don't know if its had an effect.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,534 ✭✭✭✭guil

i'd say it will be ok unless ya have both on at the same time cos when ya r settin up port forward the ip of the ps3 wont come up unless its turned on

The official forum had about ten stickies regarding the state of multiplayer, I've completely lost track. So I'm gonna go ask someone there.

Got the patch, still not connecting. Gonna see what the story is on the official IW site.

The lobby was taking fcking ages to connect there until the latest patch was released. Now it's finding any game in a matter of seconds, it's absolutely brilliant. Don't know what they changed, but I noticed I'm now playing americans in games, rather than just europeans. Also, it's great as there's more people with headsets.

Have you went to portforward.com and followed the instructions?

Initially I was having problems, it wouldn't connect to anything and kept "Downloading Game Settings". At first I just completely disabled the firewall on my router (not recommended but didn't do any harm as I've all my computers with their own firewalls anyway) and it worked perfect. Then I set up the firewall properly through portforward and now everythings running absolutely perfect, especially after the latest patch (as I said above).

Yeah I was the official IW forum this morning and there's one hell of a ****storm brewing over this patch. They really should just bite the bullet and apologise.
