Im gonna make this as easy as possible to understand and going straight to the point where possible

Im gonna call me "me" and Im gonna call Alan "al" cause that his name

I worked in a medium sized company with al for 18 months

He has 10-12 years experience but i only had the 18 months

Anyway al got a new job in a new company as the lab manager and he offered me a job there as an assistant(one of two assistants)and i accepted it because I was would increase my salary by about 10k and a new vehicle with unlimited personal use with free fuel and a phone also with no limits so all in all thats a good offer,Im not bragging, the way I see it (and as im sure you can already) is that this is a nice little number for both of us

Al is bone idle lazy!he is morbidly obese(from eating fatty foods and being inactive)he thinks he knows it all but he is unwilling to share it!
We work for a spanish company and our boss is young(31),a little nervous about his language skills and being away from his family..just the whole daunting experience of working in a foreign country I suppose but at the end of it all he is very fair and undemanding

Big al shows him zero respect!al is just pure ignorant to him!!al shows up everyday at about 10 2 10,i could give you a list of things that happen but I will just give you one more...al falls asleep and snores in his office several times a week,he was caught by Pedro just before christmas,Pedro just walked away, sleeping on any job is seen as gross misconduct.

Our boss Pedro(yea thats the Spanish guy)has asked me if I know sombody that would be a lab manager.I do know sombody that can do it!

Al is having an affect on me too because he is not training me

Should I tell al to pull his socks up,should I tell pedro to give him a good stern warning or should I just give them a CV?
I know Pedro will do whatever I suggest because he trusts me

Al got you the job. The right thing to do would be to tell him to pull his socks up. Then leave it at that. Pedro should have the balls to sack him if he doesn't cop on.

    Fair enough..but

If I was to tell al to watch his back then he would smell a rat
Im no rat but I dont have much time for ****ers that dont pull their weight at work,It means that I have to do some of their work without getting some of their wages

Pedro is the boss of both of ye? Surely Pedro should take in the initiative here.

maybe he's hoping you tell Al as it would be reasonable to assume that since Al got you the job and better conditions you might have some form of relationship with the guy.

You do realize you've been "associated with someone like al" since al got you the job, yeah?

Put it this way: if al goes down, you may go as well. So say something to the man, but don't be a pr|ck about it.

    :)

Actually not gross misconduct and it would be the usual routine of warnings etc. That is beyond the fact that in the UK at least you're actually allowed to fall asleep after 10pm as well as I recall.

Anyway you'd be suprised how damn hard it is to fire someone who's been sleeping at work (200+ photos with the days newspaper next to the face, 10 min video recording, security camera confirming it and HR still would not consider doing anything...).

It sounds like Pedro wants you to do his job for him. If he has issues with Al not working then he should sort it out.

The best thing you can do is keep out of it. It has nothing to do with you.

If you have issues about Al not training you in, then say it to Al. If after 2-3 goes he still won't train you then say that you will have to mention it to Pedro as you want to make the most of this job.

Don't hand them your CV looking for Al's job you will only come across as backstabbing and while they may give you the job they will always remember that!
