i too would like to see an answer to leakd and the OP poster's first question.

assuming this mini DVI to VGA adapter would allow my macbook to be used with my monitor?

€19 from the Apple online store. I've never seen them cheaper than this, I think I bought mine for around €25 from Spectra. You could try PC world, they do a lot of third party cables for iPods, they may have Mac stuff too, I don't remember seeing them though.

Cremo, it will allow you to use your MacBook with your monitor provided it has a VGA port, which looks like this. Most do.

Re your second q yes it will, however if you want a first rate pic on the second monitor get a flat screen HDTV and get the miniDV to HDMI adaptor which is more expensive than the vga one, the quality, especially with DVD's is awesome. I have a 32" :)

    to answer your first question
I buy my stuff from apple online: it gets delivery next day and I know it works; ebay has a lot of cheap stuff which does not always work

i'd rather pay apple web store prices than give pcworld my money.

i'd hate to go in and ask them for one to be greeted by ??? faces and then when i finally find one and ask how much i'm greeted by "IT'S ONLY ONE NINE EURO!" :D

i wouldn't really need the mini dvi to hdmi as i still live in the stone ages when it comes to monitors, 19inch crt ftw!

i know what ya mean. i went into 3g in stephens green looking for the mini dvi - dvi adapter for my macbook and i was told apple "dont make one"... so i brought it up on the apple store on one of the computers there and he said "that just the american store, not in Ireland" so i didnt bother going to apple.ie.. i left and bought it in spectra.

so yeah.... apple online store is €19 and spectra/o2 experience are around €25!

Is there an offical MiniDVI to HDMI without the use of an adapter? What is a Mac like on a big TV like a 32"?

no. i have the mini dvi to dvi from apple, then a non-apple dvi to hdmi cable. i have it connected to a 42" and its great. when playing videos though, it depends what resolution they are... some look great, others pixelated
