Sort of in a rut with my song-writing (probably apparent in my last thread). However,I think I've sourced the problem. What I'm looking for in my music is variety which I had find quite hard to attain. This lies,I believe, mainly in my melodies, which as I only ad-lib my meloides over chords, are all quite similar. How do you go about creating melodies and finding that variety I'm looking for?

I reccomend writing ur melodies on the piano not guitar, play around with thirds and sixths...Check out ' Tubular Bells' by Mike Oldfield, its packed with interesting melodies, gud luck

Listen to more and different stuff. Pop, folk, blues and country all use the same chord progressions. Listen to how the singers get a different melody line from the same chords. Then you try singing your songs in different styles and/or keys. Experiment with phrasing the words differently. Stretch yourself (but don't hurt yourself!)
