Why is it that when an ancient decides to descend that they take human form in a less evolved state?

Because it saves a lot of time in make up if the person looks exactly like us.

The ancients looked exactly like humans there is no other explanation needed, thats what they look like.

Exactly. They're evolved mentally which allowed them to eventually ascend, they looked exactly like us.

I just assumed that the energy form they ascend into cant last more than a couple minutes in our plane of existence. Hence when they choose to exist on our plane of existence for an extended length of time (whatever that reason may be) they assume a more stable, corporeal form.

And since youre taking a corporeal form they would probably assume their past-life, Alterran form. Why not just assume a form of a human with a really high capacity brain? Good question - probably because that doesn't make good television. I doubt make-up is the real reason just make a guy with a fat head.

I was refereing to their mental abilities. Telepathy, telekinesis, healing, cryonics, superman hearing and the likes. Not their physical appearance.

who retook human form and didnt keep there highy evolved brain.

daniel was basically kicked out of the club and his knowledge whiped so he didnt even have the abilities in the first place.

in episode 5x03. Orlan retakes human form but still has all his knowledge from before he asscended.

also well all know merlin retook human form and still had his abilites.(although he kept all his knowledge from when he asscended which broke the rules but he still had telekinesis.

dont forget that not all of the altierans had the same abilities. some have telekinesis some dont.

i was just saying as when they descend they always say ''i retook this form'' as in it was there highest peek before they assended.

Yeah i cant remember the name of him, could be orlan, but he retook human form as a child so that he could keep as much memory as possible.

As far as Telepathy, telekinesis, healing, cryonics, superman hearing... the ancients didn't have those abilities, they had a device that could do that but ummm that didn't turn out too well for McKay :P
