Ever think about becoming an umpire or scorer? Or would you just like to learn more about the laws and how they're applied?

The Leinster Cricket Umpires' and Scorers' Association (LCU&SA) is starting their annual umpiring & scoring courses in the next couple of weeks. These are low-key & fun evenings in Clontarf CC, last approximately 2 hours an evening for 10 weeks.

If you're interested, or would like more details, feel free to PM me!

Don't think so Derek, I'm doing the umpiring course for my GL5 qualification, having got GL6 last year.

Sounds like we could have quite a Boards representation - you, me and potentially a couple of others who contacted me recently.

I've been at every night so far and I am very impressed. There is a wide variety of people doing the course, from senior cricketers and experienced umpires to complete novices and it is interesting to get the different perspectives.

it's very good i have to say. but it's a bit of a shock to realise how little i actually knew beforehand, have a mock exam this week which will probably be an eye-opener

This shocked me too when I did the course for the first time. I felt I knew a fair bit about the game, and all of the "usual" rules. Boy was I wrong. Each night I realised either I didn't know something fundamental, or my knowledge of a fundamental was flawed or plain wrong.

Yes, this is always a good practice, and some people get a bit of a fright, myself included! :)
