Decided to NCT my car today (924), mainly because I am thinking of selling it on shortly. Tried the NCT web site but it only goes back to 1983 and the car is 1980. Called up and gave the reg but they say its not on their system:confused:? It was imported from the UK 2 years ago & VRT paid. Don't know if i should bother taking it further - might me more of a plus that is not in the system.

Imported cars are not automatically added to the NCT system, You have to take in the Registration Cert and they will add it to the system before you can make an appointment.

When I imported my Merc last year and later went to get an NCT done I had the same problem as you do now. What I had to do was go to my local NCT centre and got the guy in the office there to input the cars details from my documentation. Then he was able to issue me with a date for the NCT.
    Hope this helps you

PS Whats the story with the Porsche,

I called the NCT people today with this question, and the above is exactly what they told me too.

Thanks for the quick responses - I will take it down and book an appointment.
Dermo the 924 has been my daily drive for 2 years but change of job means I need to cover more miles, new car time. I have to say it was a great first classic, easy to work on, easy to get parts, 30mpg and fun to drive.

    cheers

The above is correct but if you'd rather not visit the VRT station twice you can fax in a copy of you documentation to head office and they'll put the car on the system for you. Of course they neglect to tell you that when you ring them ...they'll just tell you to visit your local VRT station.
