Have a Dell dimension 3000 that wont boot up. It gets as far as the Dell screen then everything on the screen dissapears.

Power button light remains green. Indicator lights at back are all green.
I have tried replacing RAM, tried a different power supply and reset the battery but nothing has work.

Could this be a problem with on board motherboard?

Diagnostic lights are all green so the Motherboard is getting power.

Remove any pci cards that are connected to the board (modem etc) and unplug the ide cables from the board and see if it boots any further, if it does reconnect everything you disconnectd one at a time to see whats causing the problem.

If it still freezes in the same place with everything disconnected try resetting the bios. There should be a jumper on the mainboard for that , removing the battery and unlpuging the power supply for a few minutes should work also. Aslo make sure that the CPU cooling fan and heatsink are seated properly and functioning

If it's still not working after that and you have replaced the ram and power supply and the cooler fans are doing their thing theres not much left apart from the motherboard.

    Thanks for your help.
I tried everything you suggested still same. Power was going to motherboard. Was about to give up untill i decided to try boot with a WINNTERNALS cd. It booted i did a file repair and a restore from a previous working point and amazingly it worked.

    Pc is fine now
