So far the cheapest place that I've found for this rpg is from game.co.uk for the guts of €50 inc. P & P. Have any of you guys managed to get it for less?

Mod: I did have a post in the bargain request forum, but got no response so put a post in here to see if I'll have more luck. Cheers.

I thought that too until today. Virtua Fighter in XV Wicklow was €35, in Blackrock its €49. Maybe its a condition thing but generally they seem cheaper in Wicklow, probably due the larger selection.

was it second hand for €49??

Sorry for unearthing the thread, but looking for a new game to buy to keep me ticking over until GTA, just wondering is there any difference between the game of the year edition and the standard one? There's about €20 price diff.

    Thanks

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,721 ✭✭✭Otacon

Yes there is. The two expansion packs that were eventually released on PC and XBox360 versions are all included in the GOTY edition. Well worth it if you do not have to original.

Cool thanks, can't decide between that or unchartered....

They are both excellent and completely different games. Unchartered you could probably finish in about a week but Oblivion has months of gameplay in it, so that might be the better bet to tide you over until GTA 4.

Thanks, never played a Role play game like it. Is there much action in it or is it mostly strategy and puzzles?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 183 ✭✭writetojd

In the beginning its alot of exploration. But to answer your question more action depending on the character you pick and class and depends if you want to join the guilds in it or just do the main story. Its fairly open to be honest. You could play for ages without touching the main story line with tonnes of side stories and distractions (the arena)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,039 ✭✭✭✭Kintarō Hattori

As writetojd says it really all depends on your class of character and whether you stick to the main storyline. The game area is HUGE, really really HUGE and there are tons of area's to explore but there is also plenty of action to be had from the storyline and branching off from that.

Role playing games aren't normally my cup of tea but I got this for free and enjoyed it tremendously and can't wait for the next title.

So, is it any good then?;)

I'n not into RPG games to be honest. I brought it, played it at home and stopped playing after about 20 minutes. I didn't think it was that great to be honest, pretty much like alot of ps3 titles. Average. Don't get it if you are not into RPG's. It's the kind of game for 12 year olds.

That's an odd sweeping statement. It's certainly an above average PS3 title, which is reflected in the scores and numerous awards it's received and it's certainly not just for 12 year olds. I suspect it's aimed at a slightly older audience.
I can appreciate that you didn't like it but that's no reason to give a false and inaccurate impression of the game.

yeah this game is worth every penny, i hated it (bare with me here) but i had been playin wow for so long that every other rpg made me feel like melting my face. but for 55 squids or whatever, your getting a bloody huge game that will give a lot back to anyone who invests time in it. but thats what rpgs are these days ladies, time and lots of it. so to mister 20 minutes above, your statement is more or less void.20 minutes is the opening cinematic and not much more.

my opinions are based on my mate playing it to death on the 360 when i was living with him, every day there was something new!

dissapointing game, nothing creative in it. Not a patch on morrowind.
Not worth playing or paying money for.

Well you won't be disappointed, Unchartered is a fantastic game too.

Play it on Hard though. Not only will it make the game longer ie. as you keep dying. It also makes the AI more impressive imo.

Oblivions the best game on the PS3 so far. Seriously, Uncharted's good but six hours later you'll feel ripped off.

I stand by my statement, that Oblivion is the kind of game a twelve year old would enjoy, or a grown man who lived with his mother and does the daily paper round.
I'm sure there is alot in it but you do have to be a big fan of medieval fantasy, which I'm not and I was just pointing it out :) I found Assasins Creed to be a good game so that's why I got Oblivion. I'll happily trade it in for another game now though..

Thats as good as saying that PES is only for chavs who smoke dope and get their mates girlfriend up the pole. There's no foundation, you didn't even play the game you said that yourself. Assassin's Creed was insanely boring and lifeless. More repeated quotes than a family guy forum "no you dont understand, i'm begging you please" ya ya, climb this press x, go here kill that, done. If you like your games to be about as interesting as the floor in the post office than fair enough, but to anyone who likes depth, story, graphical craftsmanship and excellent design, along with a game that will get you more playtime than pre-school, then pick this up. Other than that, get a Wii

They don't have it! I ordered this 8 weeks ago, which they charged me for...7 weeks later I still hadn't received it so, I asked for a refund which I am still waiting on!

I ordered this on PLAY (I cancelled it after two weeks) VideoGamesPlus (I cancelled it after a month) and then PLAY again (and again...).

I just happened to be in a big HMV one day and saw it. Got it straight away.

As for the 12 yr old statement, I really cannot agree with sh*t like that. I can understand if you're not into this kind of stuff but that doesn't mean its somehow below you...

As I mentioned it's won numerous awards which can be found here on this very long list:

Take a look at the games on offer for the PS3; I'm willing to give props to Oblivion purely because it's not a bog-standard FPS. Also, it's not over in a matter of hours like several recent titles.

In a matter of hours it's not even started. Can't say I liked this, thought it was uber-nerdy;spent about 14 hours at it, closed an oblivion gate (at Kvatch) and did a load of side quests though!
In saying that that you need a lot of time on your hands if you're going to play this game and it's probably best value for money single-player out there.

I just wanted to apologise to people who were upset and hurt by my statement that Oblivion was the type of game only a 12 year old would enjoy. I just don't think it's the kind of game for everyone, although I now see it has a strong fan-base.
If you like role playing games, warp speed your little botties down to the nearest store and find a copy! To infinity and beyond!!!

Oh my God! My sarcasm detector just blew up in my face!! My eyes!

I will agree that it is not for everyone. If you are a fan of games like Final Fantasy, this is further down that genre, a bit more advanced but a joy once you get into it.

Anyone with an open mind towards game genres, who may wish to step into RPGs would do well to start here.

I played final fantasy 7 on the playsation and loved it, I must say. I was sucked into the whole atmosphere of it. Of course I had more time then, but now I only like to play quick pick up and play games like pes, gt5 and cod4. Magic !

It was the first game I got with my xbox. It was the first rpg I'd played too. Didn't quite get into it at the start, probably wouldn't have stuck at it but I'd nothing else to play besides table tennis.

Ended up really enjoying it. Completed all storyline/guild quests + bought the expansion back and completed all of that too. It takes up a lot of time though, but I completed it over the course of a year. Kind of left it a couple of times and then went back to it (closing those oblivion gates was doing my head in, only realised towards the end you didn't have to do all of them). If you'd like and expansive area filled with plenty of things to do then I'd definitely pick this one up.
