I havnt done it for a while now but have a very good metal detector at home. i used to scan beaches and found some jewllery even one diamond ring,
The last time i was out i found a load of old coins and things that look interesting but never got them checked out, where would i go to do this??
the coins have to be a couple of centuries old.

Metal detecting is illegal without a license. Anything you find, wether through metal detecting or otherwise is the property of the state and should be handed in to the national museum or your local garda station.

No offence but whats the point in having illegal archaeological finds? When pulling up those coins you may have destroyed a possible grave or contexts that may lead to the furthering of our knowledge of history.Raping our history so you can have a few pretty pieces of metal in a drawer in your bedroom. You dont even know what they are! Not to mention the confiscation of your gear and heafty fine when cought. Anyone who can tell you what they are will and should report you to the Gardai

LOL, i think the gaurds have more pressing issues. I was half expecting a response like that on this fourm.
anyway whatever i found is the last items ever to be found again at that site, new N3 is running directly through it. and before you ask, im pro road

Im also pro road for the record. Its exactly your ignorant selfish attitude that creates the problem. The excavations arnt about looking for pretty shiney thinks like you do, they are more interested in the soil strata and your treasure hunting ruins any chance of finding anything. I wouldnt expect you to understand or care but your selfishness and distain for your national pride makes me sick

And LOL while the Gards have more pressing issues, the law is still the law. Grow up because jugding by your attitude im assuming you got a fisherpirce metal detector off your parents for christmas
