I went in to Nutgrove yesterday to reactivate the reg on an 86 Porsche 911 that had previously been imported and registered here and then reexported to the UK. Following a good bit of messing around with forms, she pulled out a brand new old-style tax book, one of the brown cardboard ones! I didn't think they were still being issued?

I got one last year when the original was lost (for a 1990 BMW).

Sounds as if the policy is if the vehicle was originally registered with the old book, it stays with the old book.

If the car was originally issued with an old type tax book, you will be issued with a new one if you apply for a duplicate.

I have one of these for my '90 Micra, and I prefer them to the modern sheet-of-paper versions. The old ones we more detailed and more durable.

What do you do to wear out the newer ones ??

    Nothing.

I was just pointing out that cardboard is more durable than paper.

...plus, with a tax book, you can contact the previous owner(s) to check out the car's history;)

Good to hear that old-style tax book are still available where appropriate!
