Not martial arts related but came across this on Youtube. Have done some climbing myself in the past and a little bit of free stuff on some tame areas of Dalkey quarry, but nothing approaching this guy, the late Dan Osman. This video actually defies belief, and any time I now think of training getting that little bit tough in the future I will think of this.

    Enjoy!

    You forgot the link David.....

Saw a programme on him a while back. He was famous for speed climbing using no ropes.... but died when he did use one and it snapped

Solo climing on its own is scary, but to do it at such speed is just lunacy.

    Amazing.

    It's a 5.7 grade route....which to a guy like Dan is effectively a ladder !

5.7 is about VS 4b in Irish/UK terms, which is the sort of thing you take beginners out on on their first day out.

You have a bad day on the mats, you get tapped, or in the gym you dont lift well. You have a bad day 400ft up with no rope you are dead. Regardless of climbing difficulty its still pretty impressive.

He was probably just trying to put it in to perspective.

Thats unbelievable. Fair play. Thats 100% commitment, u cant just pack up and go home halfway through if u dont like the way things are going.

This vid http://ie.youtube.com/watch?v=VtP6D7S5LAk&feature=related shows the type of jump he was doing when the rope snapped and killed him.
