How much truth is there in the strong rumour that:
this summer we will have 3 weeks less holidays as college is changing the calendar structure in anticipation of semesterisation leaving us going to college in mid september next year.

I heard last october it was definite but have heard nothing since, and that was from someone with no real authouritah.

From what I know the changes are coming to affect for the academic year 2009/2010.

'Semesterisation', whereby we'll be moving to a new Academic Year Structure of two 12 week teaching terms (Michaelmas and Hilary) and a 4 week term for revision and sitting of exams (Trinity) is due to start in 2009/2010. However, there are still quite a few issues to be ironed out (such as the exact dates for 2009/2010) and more technical ones such as Reading Week, Schol Exams and the like. Board and University Council have approved it 'in principle' but as of yet no iron decision on what exact dates we'll be starting in 2009 has been made. The discussions are going back and forth been the Heads of Schools Committee, Undergraduate Teaching & Learning Committee, Quality Committee, Scholarship Review Working Party, Academic Year Structure Working Party and a whole host of other places. Fun times.

So definitely not for 2008/2009 but 2009/2010. Just in case anyone is wondering, we won't be moving to the UCD style situation where they have 'Freshers' Week' and lectures. Freshers' Week will always be a separate week just before the start of term. I'll be keeping Council posted on it but if anyone wants to know what the latest 'story' with it is (Come on, even I get to try and use cool phrases every now and then. Right?) just e-mail me.

Thank Christ this heresy will only affect me for one year...

Just to clarify, coming home from my holidays during the last week of September(barring repeats) will be grand?

Perhaps suggest to Claire that a piece should be put in the páipéar? Or write it yourself?

Tell me about it. Freaking tell me about it. The scary thing is, they're actually in the upper-level of 'Committee Efficiency' in my charts.

edit: and we're back on the 7th or 8th?

Looking forward to the exams? I wouldn't be looking forward to exams but thankfully I don't have to do exams anymore like you have to do exams. It must suck to be doing exams. Does it suck to do exams? Sorry, you must be sick of people talking about exams!

Nicely done, I doff my cap to you. You've fully tested my ability to work exams into another sentence. Top marks!

Watch out for John the Mex-a MS word file is being written up with all our names on it...

I must say though that I didn't like the idea of the big exam with large flailing arms all over it, that made me feel rather queasy inside.
