Be go der is...starts the 19th of Feb, the only problem is we're sharing it with the gimps of GMIT (no offence its just we'd like our own rag week thank you!!!), this means 24,000 students all on the beer n only round 2000(ish) nightclub spaces, fun times are on the way!! :D Lets jus hope i'll be too drunk to atempt going to a night club its probably the only option or start quein at 8!!!

i doubt they'd hold a dual rag week for logistical purposes, last time it happened it coincided with the novena :D

Everywhere will be full but the people shall come! Well not me personally, not a fan of nightclubs at the best of times nevermind when I know ill never get in.

Its not gonna be that bad for god sake. All yee blow ins have never seen a busy night in galway. Thursday of Race week for instance sees bigger crowds out then any college night. From the kings head right down to and including the spanish arch wedged with people.

I remember that one 2003 was it? a fierce feed of Bicardi Rigo in The Venue one day at a 'beach party' some blast. Then had a bath in the fountain in the square!

There is nothing like hittin the gpo during the day the novelty of a club open during the day just cannnot wear off!

Did nt really notice much difference between that rag week and the others when it did nt coincide with GMIT.

For NUIGs sake I hope rag weeks stays strong UCD/Dublin colleges in general dont have a proper rag week its one thing the college has over them (amongst many many others which i wont go into here :D)

It doesn't make much of a difference cuz all GMIT used come out for the NUI rag week anyway. Are the night clubs filling and having to cue at 9 not a rag week tradition?

I cannot wait for NUIG Rag Week, probably the best college event out of all the colleges in the Republic. the whole town is on the beer and it's unbelievable craic. I know loads of people who head down for the week each and every year. only 1 month to go, it's gonna be great.

exactly. it doesnt make a difference if nuis and gmits are combined, everyone goes out for both of em anyway.

I'm new to the whole RAG week thing. Anyone care to describe it? As in, is there anything different other than everyone being on the batter?

Weeell there is and there isn't.

Firstly there are more things on that you would never see on normally. I distinctly remember strippers in the GPO one time and of course foam parties that kinda lark. The college bar is jammed from early morning (we're talking 11 am here) there's a DJ and so forth in there. Unfortunately the River Inn seem to have given up on RAG week these days it used to be mighty craic in there (rumours were the previous owners replaced all the furniture after every RAG week). And pretty much no one goes into lectures.

Now there are also non-drink related events going on not sure what they are this year. They had guys live in a box they pushed around campus one time. They usually do a bit of messin around with Iggy. Also there are loads of guys going around with charity buckets as RAG week does stand for Raise A Grand week after all:rolleyes:

Sooo drinking early and not going into lectures?

Well at least I won't look so bad that week!

    Raise money for local charities.

So basically drink til your liver dies and throw the occasional euro coin in a bucket to justify yourself. :):p

I went to the strippers in the GPO during the day few years back - v.gd times. It turns out they were all page 3 models!! They call out people from the crowd and end up destroying them with water and fairy up liquid - absolutely hilarious!

    what does rag stand for?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,484 ✭✭✭JIZZLORD

the name is a bone of contention.

some say raise and give, some say raise a grand, while others say these are backronyms.

Seems the time of my post has betrayed me >_>

Do any supermarkets/off-licenses do special offers for RAG Week or would one be advised to stock up beforehand? :D

I doubt it, they'll probably be exploiting people more than anything! Stock up, hehe. You'll probably get really pissed for two days and won't be able to stomach, literally, any more drinking like most! Have fun!

sh8t some can barely make it past the first day. In my view for sessions like these you should only drink good quality beers without much preservatives and sh*te, that way you can last longer.

and remember, binge drinking is bad.

That's why I limit myself to three bottles of bucky/day.;)

Were you outside my apartment on Wednesday morning drinking bucky and begging people to drink with you as you have no friends?

Just seems like more than a coincidence to me.....:p

no it's a highly philosophical and metaphorical exploration the ambiguity of the written word and the fallacy of it's prominence in today's society as a means of expression and exchanging knowledge.

as an extension of this discussion from now on i shall only express myself in terms of shapes.
