Looking for a good all in one printer that will be used mainly for printing text, not any huge amounts of pages or anything.

I hear Canon are generally the best and the ink is cheap for them too so if anyone can recommend one I can pick up locally (any good deals in the sales) that would be great :)

Can anyone see any major reason this Canon:
    http://www.argos.ie/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=30001&langId=-1&catalogId=1500000801&productId=1500117641&clickfrom=name

Is twice the price of this:
    http://www.argos.ie/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=30001&langId=-1&catalogId=1500000801&productId=1500115749&clickfrom=name

They both seem pretty much the same? Would they both take the same ink I wonder? Why would one be double the price of the other:confused:

the more expensive one takes more cartridges but it's €20 for each of three colours vs. €30 for one - I don't know the capacities of ink in each

but you could buy a fair bit of ink for the difference and ALL the more expensive printers form all brands claimed to use less ink than each other
the MP460 came with full size cartidges too so you get €50 ink with a €70 printer

dpi is very similar, pint speed - well they lie anyway
the first one is reduced in price - in store says was €140 web say was €90 or something.

reviews were good apart from the first using a lot of ink and not great scanning colours, the reviews beat all the similar HP's btw which got shot down on print quality ! And I hate the whole changing to photo cartridge thing.

I gave the cheaper one as a present , have only tried printing from SD card to plain paper so can't tell how good it really is.

I got it as a photo printer with an LCD that could read SD cards, the other bits and pieces are handy. One nice feature is you can print a contact sheet with 36 photos and then tick in the boxes and put the sheet back on the scanner and it will print those photos, though I haven't found the setting to get it to print more than one on a single sheet.

canon seem to lie less about speed than other manufactureres so it should be fine for text and you get a free scanner too.

Where to get the inks as that will be the big cost

Another alternative if you are only printing out text is a second hand laser , check out ones that have separate toner rather than photoconductor all in one like HP do. Some have toner that will do 1000's of pages for a tenner !!

I got a HP 3 in 1 in Harvey Norman for about €45
pretty basic but good and cheap

Thanks for the info. Harvey Normans is a bit far from where I am. Think I might for for the €60 Canon one, Captn, you're saying you get a full cartridge with the one for €60, with the cartridge itself being worth €50, but you say above that the cartridge cost for the cheaper one is €30?

This definitely wont be used for any memory card printing so if it's good for just colour and text, then that'll be fine for €60 I'm sure. Are you saying it's cheaper online than in store aswell?

It takes two cartridges IIRC the black one is €20 and the tri-coulour one is €30
price is the same on line except the paper catalog says a higher previous price

the more expensive printer takes different ink , and the black and each of the three colours are €20 each - hopefully can get cheaper online

just got some photo paper in Lidl so may get a chance to print out photos sometime.

Ah ok cool. How many pages can I expect to get from €50 of ink do you reckon?

I heard one thing about Dell printers is that the ink is way too expensive, but these Canon ones seem just as pricey, would the Canon be a lot more economical I wonder?

Do the likes of cartridge world (are they the guys who refill ink?) do Canon inks cheaper?

Which would you go for yourself for basic text and colour? No high quality photo printing required :)

Have the one for 60 reserved anyway. To buy or not?
