Where to live for the Summer?

Myself and a mate, and potentially a few more of us are hitting the Continent for the Summer. Don't want to do the J1 or Aus at all. Just looking for a nice laid back atmosphere to have a good time for 3 or so months.

We've been thinking of the south of France, Poland, Berlin, Switzerland etc. Spain would be a bit too intense and touristy, and i'm going to Benicassim for two weeks anyway

Basically just looking for a bit of sun, good night life, women, adventure sports, reliatively cheap (well cheaper than here) etc. Also wouldn't mind travel potential, tear off to a city for a weekend or a festival or a race meeting.

I'm gonna be going over and just paying my few months rent straight away, not working at all, panning out basically. My mate will be having to work, probably bar work or the like.

So we're looking for ideas. Where to go? Where to look for an apartment/house to rent for 3 months (don't want to go over there without a place to be honest).

    Thanks in advance.

I was looking into austria or switzerland for june or maybe the summer for the european championships, so i dont know if youd be interested in going to a country thats gonna be packed with loud drunk men watching football all month. But at least england won't be there!

Id like to do poland myself for a few months. If you want somewhere with sun but dont like the idea of spain because its so busy would you think about croatia or bulgaria? They would be alot quieter that spain.

I second Croatia, perhaps one of the islands like Hvar, here you can rent rooms for around €10 a night easily. Locals in these areas go to the train stations / ports every morning trying to find tourists to stay in there rooms, sometimes you will even get a seperate apartment. I think they would give you a good deal if you told them you were going to stay for two months as it would save them a lot of hassle. These islands are fairly touristy but nothing like Spain, but still have a good night life without any English / Irish yobs etc. There is also plenty of opportunities for water / adventure sports

I could easily see myself spending a few weeks here, especially if you're just going to pan out for the time, there is also the opportunity to travel to the mainland, cities like Split and Dubrovnik are fairly close buy, there are a lot of islands that you could move around too, and there would be opportunities to go to Bosnia, Serbia or Montenegro.

These countries are a lot safer and more developed than you would thin, weather in summer will be great, and as for the women!

The one problem with this is that if your friend needs to work, I cant imagine jobs being too well-paid over there, and I'd say they would be very hard to find too. A lot of the tourists over there are French / Italian, so speaking English wouldn't exactly get him a job. Is there any possibility of him just working here for a month or so and then just taking a holiday over there too, you could get very bored on your own in a foreign country after a few weeks

On the south of France - I've spent a lot of time in France, it would be expensive though, unless you are willing to stay in the countryside, but i'd imagine you want to be in a city / town by the beach. It would be (slightly) easier for your friend to find a job in Frace though, especially if he speaks a little French

Poland - was here during the summer only for a few days though and it seemed nice, certainly wouldn't spend two months here though. And as for jobs - there is a reason why they all move over here

Edit: was just on another forum trying to figure out what I'm going to do myself for the summer, and a poster on that said it is virtually impossible to get a work permit for Croatia, as all the jobs there are supposed to be for Croatians, so if your friend has to work then that is out of the question

I've pretty much settled on Berlin at this early stage. Rent is reasonable in the city, don't know how I'm gonna get over the language barrier, though I do have the odd word from about 8 years ago. Shouldn't be too hard to travel a bit while i'm there anyway.

Anyone got anything to add about Berlin?
