Don't get me wrong, how much easier would our lives be without a period but surely that can't be safe/healthy/right???

it is.. the blood you dont lose reduces lack or iron and reduces anaemia. check the site, it has the pro's.

Have a look at the side effects though:
    http://www.lybrel.com/safety/

Jaundice, breast lumps, coughing blood, heart attack, stroke

As with a lot of these 'medical advancements' that go against nature, the potential side effects greatly outweigh the potential advantages

yep, but those are common with most pills. the worst case scenario risks. its out in the us, hasnt come here yet.

Its not a period when you are on the pill anyway, its a withdrawal bleed. And have you ever looked at the list of possible side effects on any pill pack? If you dont want to mess around with your body you should just not take the pill at all. Personally I think its about time. Betcha if men had periods they wouldn't be having periods.

This occurs as a possible side effect of all combination contraceptive pills unfortunately.

What I would be interested in here is what the frequency of infertility is? After a woman takes a prolonged course of the COCP (The Pill) then there can be up to one full year lag (or longer) before returning to normal menstruation and fertility - this is in the case of a pill mimicing a normal menstrual cycle.

What about something that blocks this entirely - is the lag longer? Is it different?

interesting. never thought of thought. so if you wanted to get preganant and decided to come off it.. how long would it be before you could concieve? is that what you mean?

"In at least one study conducted by Wyeth and presented at the 2006 annual meeting of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, 99% of 187 women taking Lybrel for one year either returned to menstruating or got pregnant within 90 days after stopping the drug."
just found this on the net.

I always treat studies carried out by Drugs companies about their own products with some scepticism. I would not be surprised if 99% of 18 year old, fit, non-smoking women got pregnant after having sex every day for 3 months but would be if these were 35 year old, smokers with PCOS.

What...you mean like almost every contraceptive pill? If you don't take a break, you won't get a period. I only take a few breaks a year because I get very ill with my period, for instance.

when theyre taken as directed which includes a 7 day break every month, you get a period. with this new one, theres no period at all. plus your ony supposed to "ignore" that break so to speak 2-3 times a year. guess its different for you cos u get sick from your period.

Do you have the link for that?

Even if they had never been on the pill before, those 187 women must be the most fertile women in the world! I call shenanigans on that.

I like getting the period in between. It gives me the chance to do my happy period no baby dance!:D

If you don't have your period after taking the pill does that mean the lining doesn't build up in your womb? I've never taken it so I'm not too sure how it works.

The build up of the lining is lessened so that there is not as much to come away.

Women did not used to have periods for 40s year at 11 to 13 times a year.
Diet, earlier development and not having kids have brought this about.

The ius can mean you don't' have periods, I have not had one in about 6 years.
