Getting someone's IP address from Bebo

In the last few weeks I've been getting a few nasty messages on my Bebo from a private Bebo page. They weren't that bad that I'd report someone (or at least give them the satisfaction) and I've put my page on private now so they can't do it anymore....but basically I've been having ideas about someone I think it could be...just for my own piece of mind (because it has been bugging me as much as I try to forget about it) is there anyway to track someone's IP address from their Bebo? Is it easily done by just anyone?

In short: No; not "from Bebo".
Would it matter if you did? Would it tell you enough? (You'd need to go to the Gardaí to get the ISP to give up customer information and even then...)
    Contact Bebo support?

Oh ok thanks Karoma, I didn't realise it was such a big thing to get an IP address, I've often heard of people tracking IP addresses somehow so I thought it was an easy thing for just anyone to do...thanks for your help.

How do people get IP addresses from message boards etc then?

I remember being on a message board a few years ago where they caught someone out who was posting with a few different user names and being nasty to people in general. Other users got them by their IP addresses as far as I know...? No idea how any of that works so I could be wrong but thought it was pretty easy at the time.

Report that person to Bebo Customer Service.

Some of us have the ability to see IP addresses via the backend of the system.
Only used in cases of spammers and muppets

    Hello

Thank you for taking the time to bring this to our attention. In situations like this and upon request, we will provide information regarding Bebo members which we hold in our database.

However, in order to release such information we will need either a warrant or legal documentation (Declaration Form for Data User concerning the Data Protection Act) from your police station. This is due to our Privacy Policy. It must also include all the pertaining information about the Bebo account that is being investigated (username, email address or member ID's).

Please note that we must receive the above documentation from the police or a legal authority before releasing any information. They can email us via our contact us form http://www.bebo.com/ContactUs.jsp to obtain the details of the person who handles these requests.

To read more about our Privacy Policy and Terms Of Use click here: http://www.bebo.com/Privacy.jsp and http://www.bebo.com/TermsOfUse.jsp

We look forward to working with you. Thank you for helping make Bebo a safer place.

    Kindest Regards
    Michael

My friend had a similar situation a while back, and that is the response I got when I contacted bebo on her behalf. Dunno if I'm allowed to post emails like that, and apologies if I'm not.

There are other ways of setting traps to obtain IP's, but it's not easy to get an IP, and if you do, it's very hard to get an ISP to freely give it out without going through the Gardaí

well if u have an email from them in hotmail, u can get their ip from that. Also if ur on msn to them and there sending u a file, the trace rt command will show you their ip address. Then u shud be able to have some fun;)

My daughter is having a problem with her Bebo account. It was hacked into about 18 months ago and the password changed. We contacted bebo and told them of our predicament they got back to us today. My daughter has full access to her account again. She has now changed her password. Children and young teens should be very careful letting friends know their login and password to any account. Just because they are friends now who is to say they will be friends in 12months time or even next week.
I am at the stage where i have to take her with a copy of her bebo page to the Garda station and report the abuse she has been getting. This is the law that covers IT and the Internet. http://www.tjmcintyre.com/2008/07/bebo-bullying-and-law.html

    “Offences in connection with telephones.
    13.—(1) Any person who—
    (a) sends by telephone any message that is grossly offensive, or is indecent, obscene or menacing

    or

    (b) for the purpose of causing annoyance, inconvenience, or needless anxiety to another person—
    (i) sends by telephone any message that the sender knows to be false, or
(ii) persistently makes telephone calls to another person without reasonable cause,
    commits an offence.

    (2) A person found guilty of an offence under subsection (1) is liable on conviction—
    (a) if tried on indictment, to a fine not exceeding €75,000 or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 5 years, or to both, or (b) if tried summarily, to a fine not exceeding €5,000 or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 12 months, or to both.
    (3) A contravention of this section is an offence under the Post Office Act 1908.
    (4) On convicting a person for an offence under subsection (1), the court may, in addition to any other penalty imposed for the offence, order any apparatus, equipment or other thing used in the course of committing the offence to be forfeited to the State.
    (5) In this section, ‘message’ includes a text message sent by means of a short message service (SMS) facility.”.
