    Hi All,

Just finished a beginners course and really enjoyed it. I want to continue so I need a set of clubs. Nothing too expensive as I am not sure I will get out much :) I am a bloke and 6' 2" any recommendations of what to get or better yet where? either online or in Cork city?

    Thanks all.

The best advice is to go to a good shop where you can get assistance in choosing.

Failing that get a good 2nd hand set. Somebody may be able to tell you somewhere in your area......or somebody here may have a set for sale.

Since you are just beginning you don't need a full set of irons. Get something like a 5 iron, 7, 9, wedge and sand wedge. I'd get the sand wedge as you will find it difficult to get out of bunkers with a normal wedge.

You probably don't need a driver or even 3 wood - a 5 wood is a good club to start with. Obviously you will need a putter too, some shoes, a glove and a bag.

I'd resist the temptation to buy a beginners set where they throw in a putter and a bag. You'll get a better set if you buy 2nd hand or else shop around.

Nevada Bob's in Belfast had a set of Wilson Fat Shaft irons for £100 (€130 say) which is a bargain.

Don't buy "old" clubs as the newer designs are much easier to use. Don't buy forged or blades (irons) as these are for better players. Get a set of irons with a deep cavity. If you can then stick to the beter known names such as Cobra, Callaway, Taylormade, Titleist, Mizuno, Wilson, Ping.
If in doubt ask here and somebody will tell you if they are a resonable buy.
