Was thinking of trying something completely new for this year. Has anyone ever joined the Irish Navy reserve force?.

Whats the low down, would you learn something new - say about diving, engines, boats etc?

Check out military.ie. It has a reserve section and a Naval service Reserve section.

No diving but you will be trained in firefighting, sea survival, boat handling, weapons training and various other stuff .

There after you will get placed on Naval Service ships for 2 or 3 weeks at a time, depending on your availability, and become part of the crew.

Lots of other stuff goes on as well. It will take anywhere between 3-4 months to become a full member.

Do a search of this forum there are a good few threads on this up already. If you are based in Dublin I know the first parade night after Christmas is the 29th Jan in Cathal Brugha Barracks so if you want to join you can just turn up then. You will need your passport, passport pics x2 and your birth-cert.

If you ring 01 8046445, and ask for CPO Nolan, he can answer any questions that you may have, the next DCFF course is in February and medicals are being done this week
