Does anyone know what the official date of Howletts start with Munster is?

Howlett is in the country and is available to play. Whether or not he is named in the squad vs Ulster this weekend is another matter. Dowling being injured and John kelly retiring suggests he'll feature sooner rather than later.

He's named in the squad for the Ulster game.

I know Munster are eager to make use of their investment, after all he didn't come cheap and if things don't go to plan he may be sitting around getting paid for nothing but it seems like they've rushed him into the squad. I'd hardly say he's had time to properly mix with the squad and get used to them.

How long is his contract for?

Deccie will surely want him to start for the HEC matches so with the way the fixtures fall then then Kidney doesn't have much choice but give him a run on Friday night against Ulster.

His contract is for 2.5 yrs - at least that was what was announced in August.

Good to hear he is nearly ready to join in. A world class player like him wouldn`t need much acclimatisation time, in my opinion.
Should be a great game, anyone know what time is KO

Will be interesting to see how he copes with slightly slower teammates than he's used to. Should be a great addition. Contract just long enough to allow him go back to NZ and try to get into next Kiwi World Cup squad if he still has it at that stage. he has to play though GDM, he was brought in for quality in the Heineken Cup

Fair enough. I just find it curious that those who have left New Zealand post-WC all seem to be on contracts that are short enough to allow them play a season in New Zealand before next squad is picked. Howlett would admittedly probably be too old.

With all these players leaving the Super 14 teams and moving to Europe will pose a big problem for the NZ attitude to players not playing in the domestic competitions....I think you're right though - the lengths of the contracts leaves them time to come home and get some NPC & S14 games under their belt to keep them in the running for WC spots

Howlett will be near retirement age after 3 seasons in Europe
