I'm throwing out about 50 old video tapes - am wondering what's the best way to dispose of them ? Can they be recycled ?

I've never found any way of recycling them. However, if they are original tapes with films and stuff, I would imagine local charity shops like St Vincent de Paul or the like would take them. I know our local chairty shops are always happy to take VHS tapes to resell instore.

Thanks Archeron, I was thinking it was a long shot alright. It's just stuff I recorded off TV from years ago that I can get on DVD now, so very obsolete.

Give your local authority a call. There might be a council bring centre that may take them. They take small electrical appliances at no cost.

our local recycling centre - Athlone - have a bay for video tapes so I assume that means others may also

I have a couple of dozen as well so I rang Raffeen in Cork which is a fairly progressive recycling site and they said that they'd accept them alright - for dumping. For a fee. So they've gone into my own bin.

    That surely is a shame.
