I'm prescribed anti-depressants, I usually get a 3-month prescription, would any travel insurance ever cover me if I stayed longer & went to a Doctor there?

I once worked as a travel insurance call centre agent (was a horrible experience, by the way... :( )

We covered certain pre-existing conditions given very strict conditions (only one or two conditions, no change to meds in last 6 months, infrequent GP visits etc...) however depression and any other mental health conditions were never covered, as an unwritten rule.

Besides, travel insurance is designed only to cover the unforseen, such as an accident, a new condition or an unexpected flare-up of a pre-existing condition. There's no way you'll find a policy that'll cover a doctors visit that you could anticipate before going (e.g. filling a prescription).

Would that not be **** expensive though, how would that work in Aus? Could it even stop may getting a holiday/work VISA? I have had no change in meds in 6 months & have only had 2/3 appointments in the last 9-10 months.

I have no idea how it would affect your visa. Is it possible your doctor might give you a prescription for however long you plan to be abroad for? That way you would only incur expenses in Aus if you had unforeseen problems. And remember that travel insurance would still cover any problems unrelated to pre-existing conditions. I don't see how it would make things incredibly expensive tbh.

I could get a 3 month prescription, but what if I wanted to stay longer? The prescription is really expensive, I'd have to pay the whole thing. I was hoping to do travelling over the next couple of years, I wouldn't want to have to come back every 3 months.

Try finding out what companies make your meds. Also, talk to your doc about your travel plan, and the doc may be able to tell you how and where you could goto get your prescription extended.
