Easons on Nassau St are closing down and everything is 50%, but the sale has been going on since the 26th i'd say as half the shop is empty

Is it the whole shop closing down or just the newsagent/card shop? I noticed the signs last week but only on the Nassau St. side, not the Dawson St. one.

It was a bit odd running an Easons newsagent there as they also own Reads next door.

Place is nearly empty. Downstairs was 99% empty.
Magazines not included. Bit of a disappointment. Don't know if they took out all the good stuff, or it sold out on day 1. I seen the notice on the doors on Dec 27th.

I was in on the 23rd and they had the signs up then. There was very little left in the shop as I think they moved everything over to the O'Connell St shop. Majority of art and stationary supplies had been moved. Picked up some printer ink at 75% off!

it's not too long ago that Easons bought that spot up in the first place - I suppose the company owning Reads has made it less feasible although I would have expected the Reads to go before the Easons.

Wonder what's going to go in its place.

Easons own Reads and have been shutting down Reads since they bought them - the one in Cork is gone.

I understand that Easons are pulling out of Nassau St./Dawson St. and will concentrate on developing Reads in Nassau St. The plan is to expand Reads into the Blarney Woolen Mills premises.

Easons only bought Reads bookshop on nassau street. The printing & photocopying Reads (at back of Blarney woolen mills) is still in original Reads ownership.

My guess about the Easons (old Fred Hannas) shop, is it was simply too small for what Easons need for their current offering.

It'd be major news if that happened - probably have to be put through the Competition Authority too etc.

I would have thought that Eason's on Nassau St. had more space than the News agents/stationary Reads on Nassau St. too - I would have said maybe rent there was too expensive but I'd have guessed they owned that spot anyway.

Eason's on Nassau St is significantly bigger than Reads, but the two shops are aimed at very different markets - Reads more for the impulse purchase, low value items, people looking for discounts. My own reading on this situation is that Eason's were operating in the face of very stiff competition from HF and Waterstones on Dawson St. These shops, being bigger, had a much larger selection of books and were therefore more popular. Having been in Trinity for nearly 5 years, I have only very rarely shopped in Eason, sometimes in Waterstones and very often walked straight for HF any time I'm looking for something. It's sad but inevitable that they were going to move out of that site.

More on topic: was in the O'Connell St store today, and picked up the U2 book for €2.99, cheers for the heads up!

Eason's closing, Woollen Shop moving into Eason's, Read's moving into Woollen Shop. Merry go round.

Yes, always wondered about Eason's competing with themselves (Read's)

Yes. That confirms what I have been told by a staff member.

That seems to depend on the time of the day. Yesterday after lunch I walked into the shop and went downstairs to be told that they are closed. The door was locked and I had to get a security guard to let me out :)
