When a forum draws a blank, always head to harmony central for reviews.

    http://reviews.harmony-central.com/reviews/Acoustic+Guitar/product/Takamine/EG-240/10/1

    http://reviews.harmony-central.com/reviews/Acoustic+Guitar/brand/Takamine

Couldn't get it right on the money with model number, but close enough.

Though it is worth noting that Harmony Central reviews have to be taken with a generous pinch of salt.

always skeptical of harmony central, but meh it gives u an idea, i was always under the impression that takamine guitars were good though, acoustic guitars arent really where my knowledge lies HI 5

Are you sure you actually like Takamines? Only good value if you do. I say this as I don't like them and a lot og guitarists I know don't either.

Sure, it's a better crafted guitar than the other 2 you mention - and it's your choice obviously.

But IMHO there might be a good reason why there is a "bargain" Takamine available. I just think they sound horrible - shrill, tinny, too trebly. But it's all personal taste - if you like it, great, as they are certainly well made.

Sometimes when you see a 'name' brand at a good price it's easy to get blinded.

Just making sure you don't regret your decision that's all ;)

thanks caveat, i will admit i dunoo an awful lot about what guitar to buy, i have an old samick, i've had it for ten years, and want an upgrade. with a budget of 300 euro, do you have any recommendations/tips?

Fluke, for that budget I'd try a Yamaha.

Not up to date on the current models available but you should be able to get something decent for in and around €300. The Yamahas in this lower price range should all have reasonable playability and fairly well balanced sound (i.e. not too bassy and not too trebly). If the action is ok (sometimes at this price range it's hit and miss) I'd go for it.

Oh yeah, and IMO it's worth paying the extra for Elixir strings ;)

Personally, I'm saving up for a Taylor or maybe even a Martin :)

ok i see, i dunno i know i sound stubborn caveat but i'm sorta set on the takamine, what ya think of it?

It's a well made guitar - and the one you're looking at ticks all the boxes in terms of materials - looks fairly funky too and it's a cutaway (which I way prefer).

But for me it's all about the sound. Don't get me wrong - a lot of people love these guitars but it seems that just as many don't like them, and I'm one of them.

Don't mean to put you off - if you've played it and like the sound, feel...everything - then go for it!

caveat i really appreciate you taking the time out to talk to me about this, if i'm honest i just don't like th elook of most yamahas, and i've an electric yamaha, and want a change, prob sounds silly...
