American DS for Europe

    Hi,

Bought a DS in the States for a friends daughter. They already have two european ones so I'm wondering if they could use the european plug or possibly a PC to charge the American DS.

I know the voltages are different but a lot of this portable stuff has built in convertors.

Yeah you can use your other chargers on the US one with no problems. You can buy spare chargers in all the game shops, although they've been sold out of them for weeks - seems like lots of people got DS' in the states for their kids!

That's great, thanks. The last thing I want is the DS blowing up (I've done it to a Dreamcast and stereo system previously).

Yeah, the DS units are exactly the same for all regions, only thing that defers is the charger. Once you get that for your region, yer fine.

Was looking at exactly this issue tonight having recieved a second DS Lite from US. Strange thing is if you google 'usg-002' (which is the charger that comes with a US DS Lite) you will get results of sales of this item and some of them say the input voltage is something like 85v-265v (and auto-switching). Others say only 120v. Of course on the back it does say input voltage 120v. I probably would have tried it in the plug if I'd had an adaptor (US two pin to UK/Ireland 3 pin). I've nothing to lose cos it's no use to me and I figured it was either going to work or blow. As a stop gap I've taken the wire and plug out of the US charger and soldered it on to an old 3.7v 350ma Nokia phone charger and my DS is charging away nicely, but it may or may not have an effect on the DS battery if I did this long term.

And even then you could get the two pins to work over here. Use a pencil!
