    Hi there,

I'm a singer songwriter with a lot of experience in gigging and making music. Only thing is I'm a little out of practice. I haven't gigged in a long time and I'm thinking of starting up again to make some cash. Can anyone let me know what the standard rate is out there. I'm just a soloist with a guitar.

    Much appreciated

I would think the standard rate for a singer songwriter doing originals only is roughly 0.

You could reasonably ask for around 250 - 350 depending on how long you set is, and the night of the week. I suppose a lot depends on where you are based too, I know lads making that kind of money.. and more. There is though nothing a dread more than to walk into my local, and see a guy with a guitar and drum machine belting out rebel ballads... or singing Brown eyed girl with some dreadful backing track.

If you are doing your own stuff, that of course is a whole different ball game. Singer/Song writer thing would not be my scene but judging from Damien Dempsey.. Paddy Casey etc.. I would imagine it's reasonably healthy.

    All the best.

Thanks Nemesis. I do all sorts really, rock/pop and folk, anything the crowd likes. I really want to get back out there, mainly for the cash, but also to keep me sane. I haven't gigged in ages and I'm really missing it. I need to buy a second hand PA system though as I don't have one and don't want to depend on the pub having their own or hiring one.

I don't suppose you know anywhere that sell second hand PA systems? i know I could try eBay but I would love to check it out before I hand over the cash if you know what I mean.

    Anyway, thanks again.....

Buy and sell has loads of that kind of thing. You wouldn't even need a big one as it's only guitar and vocals.
