ADSL and ADSL2+ are not compatible so you will have to use the new router (normally free from Smart).

some routers supplied by other ISPs are ADSL2+ compatible. Google the model and see the specs.

Well the one I have is Belkin one i bought, didnt get it from any ISP.

Havent got the model number in front of me as its at home, I guess that could be the reason that i cant get Internet with it. Driving me up the wall over the christmas period.

****ing Smart activated my line on the 20th but no modem delivery still

I'd be surprised once you're with them if you still call them that.

In fairness, many people get the modem and wait three weeks for activation. You're giving out because you were activated early and at the busiest time of the year for post, your parcel has been delayed?

Ring them and tell them the modem hasn't arrived. Thank your lucky stars you're one of the chosen few who can get Smart.

Please don't Patronize me. I have been waiting since the end of October for this order to happen.

They called me on the 20th to tell me that the courier had not been able to make contact at my address (Even though i stayed home all day to make sure i got it) and it would be after Christmas before I get it.

And I have just called them this morning to be told it will be 3 more working days.

    Not good enough.

I am well aware of how good they are once everything is up and running. But that does not mean they should be so bad about getting it up and running.

As one who waited two months for eircom to switch me over initially plus another two months to switch me back on after they illegally disconnected me, I know what waiting is like.
Smart do not run the courier company - your issue is with them.

Have you pursued all this on the Smart forum?

Any DSL modem should work - if your Belkin doesnt do ADSL2+ then it should just fall back to ADSL. Not perfect but better than nothing - and if your line quality is good and your on a lower speed package you wont notice any difference.

Couple of questions, did you order the wireless router, or are you just getting the standard one? I got the standard one, on Dec 21st, a Speedtouch ST546 and it's absolutely crap. I couldn't even get it set up, no instructions with it, no detail on what settings to use, even though the user interface has fcuk all options in it anyway. If you get one of these, I'd advise you get a different one yourself fairly sharpish. I used my Zyxel wireless router, which is ADSL2 compatible, just had to change the username an password, then all the old settings from BT worked perfectly.

Ring Smart and they'll be able to tell you the password so you can use your own router (if it's ADSL2). Also, they should be able to give you a phone number for the courier (they gave it to me) so you can ring them. In my case, the van driver (from Nightline in Limerick) rang me half an hour before he made the delivery to check I was at home. Depending on where you live, it could be any local delivery agent. Some may not be as efficient as others, so they may not have even bothered to try the delivery, or they could have had the wrong house. It happens surprisingly often.
