Unbalanced Molars

My top left number 6 is a huge molar. It has tended to suffer the occassional damage over the last 15 years and as it was the main contact point between the upper and lower sets. The damage included two chippings, the most recent before Christmas. I had to get number it and number 5 root canaled 2 years ago.

Over the years, as it has worn away or been altered, it has caused prblems for top right number 5 & 6 (much less of a problem) and over the last three years or so there has been a balancing act of one or other side acting up and then the other in turn. My over-bite used to be very slight, but now my top incisors nearly completely cover my bottom incisors completely.

When I had the chipping repaired before Christmas, it was the other dentist who saw me. He noted some grinding on the bottom front incisors and suggested a gum shield for night time use and that numbers 5&6 on both sides might need crowning.

Incidently, top right number 5 has had a bit of trouble recently - it had a concealed cavity, tyhat was covered by a small piece of extruded filling from the tooth in front, that was snaggin food.

    Suggestions?

Sounds like you might have some tooth wear....I would suggest that you talk to your dentist about getting a night splint to protect your teeth but first you need to get all the decay removed and good fillings or crowns placed in the damaged teeth....tooth wear is very common but can cause problems if it is very severe. Best to get professional advice.
