    Hi Folks,

I was wondering if anyone here has eyeTV and if they have it working with Sky?

I got an EyeTV 250 plus last week and I cannot get a good picture at all (NTL), considering sending it back atm

I do have eyeTV. Unfortunately I don't have Sky so I can't help the OP. jpfahy, are you trying to receive NTL Digital or Analogue? If it's analogue, you need to program in the channels manually, the auto-tune doesn't pick them up properly. Try this page. I'm in Dun Laoghaire as well and have an excellent picture with an eyeTV Hybrid.

I have an EyeTV200 (analogue) and I can connect it to my Sky Digibox with a Scart to Phono lead.

Select the AV input on the Mac and set the Digibox to the required programme. You can then watch and record that channel.

Still doing a bit of research on the eye tv. I reckon the 250 plus is the one to get. But i have sky plus so recording tv is not my top top reason for getting it. My reasons

1)- to convert some old VHS to ipod format
2)- to watch tv no my mac sometimes.
3)- to record one or two shows/ programs for my ipod
    4) - to record and edit some tv programs for another tv, where i will put an apple tv ( that is if i get one, not sure about buying apple tv, will wait till next week before i decide- after mac world)

The eye tv 310 seems interesting enough.

just found this on the site of eyetv, interesting

Does EyeTV 310 support Sky PayTV service?

No. Sky is a proprietary system that only supports its own encryption system and set-top box. If you would like to watch Sky with EyeTV, you can connect EyeTV 250/EyeTV Wonder USB 2.0/EyeTV EZ/EyeTV USB to your Sky set-top box. Channels on your Sky set-top box cannot be changed automatically using EyeTV, therefore you must ensure that the cable/satellite box is tuned to the channel you wish to record.

I reckon an Eye tv is a fantastic buy. Unfortunately i am leaning towards the not buy side because i have sky + ( which is great by the way) and i am not sure about the whole apple tv thing. But mac world might change my mind next week. I will wait and see.

If you buy an eyeTV and use it to record, the recording is yours to keep. According to Sky's website, if you use Sky+ and change your subscription at all, even if you merely add aother mix to it, you lose the recording. May not be of great concern to you but certainly worth bearing in mind at least.

i have an eye tv 250, would recommend it, have it hooked up to the rf of a sky box and it records fine. Software is easy to use and its easy to edit out adds and then send them to itunes etc

What is the quality of the recordings like?

quality is fine, twill depend obviously enough on your input signal strength but i have no complaints, have burnt some dvds from recordings and no problems

It depends on the model you use. EyeTV 250 + has its own hardware decoder AFAIK, whereas something like the EyeTV hybrid relies on your processor for decoding. On a fast Mac, either should be fine, provided you're not eating up your processor power by converting a load of videos at the same time or something. I have an EyeTV Hybrid hooked up to a 1.83 GHz Core Duo MacBook and the recording quality is excellent on digital. Analogue quality leaves something to be desired.
