so is this a live event or online?

if live, just make the buy-in 1k and this should restrict the number of entries to 80 odd etc and run a few qualifiers online. but this event would be better live with 1k buy-in.

    Hi Guys,
Sorry for the short tread above, got disconnected during writing it up.

Would really like your opinions and views on the following tournament:
    IRISH HEADS-UP CHAMPIONSHIP.
Im currently in talks with a Major online poker site about holding the 2008 Irish heads-up poker championships.
    My idea was as follows:

1.To hold 8 weekly heads-up Qualifying tournaments online, the reason for online qualfying is that trying to organise games between individual players is almost impossible and we cannot guarantee a time frame to finish the qualifying if done live.
    2. set agreeded % of weekly entry fee to be held back to roll over to the grand final to create a prizepool for this event.
    3. 1 winner each week to go through to a "LIVE GRAND FINAL"
    4. Winner of the grand final will be "IRISH HEADS-UP CHAMPION"
    5. Possible package to the "WORLDS HEADS-UP FINALS" to be included for the Winner.

I would welcome comments and suggestions on the following:

    1. What would be a suitable entry fee for the weekly online qualifiers?
(not to expensive to price out players, but yet still create a good prize find)
    2. What starting stack and blind structure for the weekly qualifiers?
    3. What day and time would suit most players to play the weekly qualifiers?

This tournament would be run with the players in mind so your comments are very important as I want to get the tournament to be player friendly.

Sorry once again for the error with the first post.

    THEIRISHMOB.

A live 2-3 day tourney would be the best - €500 buyin preferably at a hotel - organise satellites online - 15/20min blind-levels and voila

Seems like a good idea Ian but it'll be pretty difficult to organise. Online sats would work quite well. I think Ollie's suggestion of a 1k buyin is pretty steep for most avg players to have a go.

I think a €200 buyin would get a pretty decent field. If you got 120 runners, prizepool of €24k with about €10k going to the winner.

5k starting stack with 20 min blinds

What do you think about the weekly online tournys with 1 or 2 from each going through to the live grand final? or maybe 1 in 10 goin through?
So maybe the sat would be €20 if the main buy in 200

The online sponsor would Id hope would also put some funds towards the prize fund and maybe The idea of the package to the world heads up finals.
I think if it was a direct buy in then the numbers could balloon and would be hard to control and finish.
I think we would have to cut down the numbers for the finals.

Its a tough one unless you get an idea of numbers that are interested. If you want to keep a poker site involved, you'll have keep them happy by playing a good bit of it online i'd assume.

Maybe something like 8 x €50 online qualifiers with top 2 going through to give 16 qualifiers and have an additional 16 live qualifiers for a 32 man main event.

The live buyin could be worked in conjunction with the total prizepool collected from the online qualifiers. Not to sure myself
