So looking back on 2007, whats your poker high and low points from the last year?

I didnt do anything out of this world in 2007 pokerwise. Managed to get over to Vegas twice. First time with Halfbaked and Ianmc38 and then with Babymaker6. Didnt make mountains of money either time but was enjoyable and a great experience. No major scores in big tournies so hoping for a couple this year.

Poker low was losing a huge cash game hand in vegas by misreading my handing and losing a 4 figure pot to Q high and also my exit from the BigSlicks €500 main event when i fancied myself for a FT spot and 10k+ payday.

Aside from myself..good to see local players like BCB, Halfbaked, Fox and nicnicnic put themselves on the map with big results in Irish Open. Hali getting a few nice results and delighted for Jayminator and what he's achieved over the last 12 months. Happy for NFR and Ldog also picking up some nice tournie results over the year.

I have to learn to stack my chips like this!! happy 2008 to everyone and way it be successful for us all :)

Managed to make a successfull move to online poker and not go busto..... yet!

Lows...... Not being able to move up levels successfully..... everytime I'm rolled for 400nl i hit a horrible run......

No real result in anything tourney wise.... then again I didn't try much

Jerry Yang winning the WSOP probably on if the poker lows of all time, not just this year. Fairly bad year for poker overall really with the on-line gaming laws.

Mine was very much year of two halves. First half brutal, second half pretty good.

Making a good living from poker related stuff (not from playing). Poker getting me my current job. No huge scores but had a winning year and have definitely improved my game (my tournament game has been pretty stagnant, but i'm much happier with my cash game)

    Lows:
Pissing away too much money with bad spewy tilty play.
KarlH leaving PPP (yes, i'm gay for karlh, but who can blame me, especially considering his replacement was BCB)
    Me having to leave PPP

poker high: taking a month off and then deciding i was the irish roland de wolfe and won 2 tourneys in 2 nights back to back without seeing a premium hand but playing like a maniac.

poker low: not getting past the first 2 levels of ANY tournament for a month following the 2 wins mentioned above! pretty frustrating!

Poker High - Winning July 07 to Dec 07

Lows - Bubbled two big satellites to bad beats, going skint a fair few times.

Highs - Improved in cash games and realising tourney's are a waste of time for me

    Highs: Profits 9 /12 months

Lows: No profits for October, November & December due to playing that silly bad pot limit game in the Emporium and getting dragged down by bad play and allowing it effect my game.. Oh yeah and that mental 7 2 game. Class game but silly really

highs: surviving first full year as a pro, chopping SE 1k main event, getting to play an ept, a few WSOP games inc main event, almost topping irish rankings, and getting to see a lot of countries, Austria/Latvia/Estonia/Czech Republic/Vegas/France/UK several times and generally having a good time.

lows: not doing as well as 06 despite excellent January. generally running bad most of the year, not playing as many online hands as i should, spending too much on trips and big buy in events, losing with KK vs KJ when chip leader and 12 left in stars 500 buy in million gtd, for 1/4 chips in play with 246k for the winner, bubbling 15k wpt sat with AA beat by KK 3 handed, bubbling ept sat next day with KK beaten to another 2 outer, blowing 50k stack on day 1 on wsop main event, losing 58k pot in ept when avg was 22k and was cruising to another 2 outer.

Highs, IO and the time I spent in Vegas, sleeping as long as I wanted, making a nice profit.

Lows, regret the way I played a couple of crucial hands over the year.

Highs - Pretty much everything since I lost my job at the end of March.
Lows - Losing 12k in 2 days in September. Losing money in some of the worst standard cash games of all time in London.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,404 ✭✭✭Goodluck2me

Highs: Vegas when I was winning, playing full-time there. Staying with the lads in Vegas was great too.
Winning Irish Open ticket in front of home crowd!
Learning that cash games are where its at, and how to play well in them.
Waterford Festival playing really well for the first time.
Bluffing Brindley off a big pot with 9 high with a 3-bet on the turn.
    Not playing in Dec.
Getting inside the head of Nicnicnic.
Derek paying $200 more than i expected in Vegas when i lost the flipz was pretty nice too!

Lows: Every Tourney in Vegas, and slowly realising how sh1t they are. Not Winning in Vegas because of them.
Losing interest in poker in Nov/Dec and realising its really not that great.
    Playing the Irish Open.
The last two hands I played in Waterford. AA v QQ (v99) losing a 4x average stack in Day two.
The AA v J9 losing on a A94 flop in first hand in 250 game the following day.

HIGHS....Making final table in 60% of EUR200+ games I entered. Live Cash games in general were a high. Realising that my incredibile bad beats were in fact standard, and not a result of some deity punishing me for my crazy life in the 90s. (no more self harm to my hair) , Hearing Bob Battersby tell me I was doing his head in. (Great success), the waitresses and female dealersin the casinos in Dublin. (always a high)., Realising how much I still have to learn and Identifying areas for improvement in 2008 . Buying a new Gibson guitar out of my poker winnings (*see lows)

LOWs: Played my 1st 1k event and ran into a donkey who was playing like it was it was a 50 euro rebuy. Playing badly in some tournaments, forgetting my own rule of never calling when you KNOW you are beat. Not being able to 100% control myself when getting dogged by poker playing idiots....some improvment though.
Still not ruthless enough in cash games. (not wanting to put the knife in when certain people are playing) . * Smashing my new Gibson by falling ass first on it during failed v. drunken attempt at russian cussack dance and returning forlornly to my washburn....:-(

Highs--Not many. Played in all the major tourneys in Ireland during the year by winning my entry through Sattellites,No big live result worth bragging about but cashed enough to mean the year was not a losing one on the live scene for me.
    Trip to vegas was brill.

Lows--Fire in the club that saw us closed for 3 months. Placed a poker ban on myself(live and online) until the club reopened. Followed my own rules but still havent gone back to playing online since in any serious way. Have to change that this year.
Going out just before the FT in the big slick 500 game in Waterford and bubbling the Maccau Xmas festival main event.
Playing 3,000 hands during my 9 days in vegas and not dealt KK or AA once. Fcuking sick.

Anyway, heres to a prosperous New Year not only for me,but for all boardies.

Highs: Being in Vegas for the WSOP, although I didn't get to play the ME.
Lows: The whole year from a poker point of view was pretty much a disaster from start to finish.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,771 ✭✭✭TommyGunne

Highs: I went from a moderate to poor live player, with very little understanding of the game, to beating .5/1 online. This included a few 1k plus paydays in live cash.

Lows: Somehow spending most of the loot and having to move down to 0.10/0.20...

The high was really good, remember that, sweey deal you made too!
Can relate to your lows, although I think the latter is more a positive than a negative, amazing how much poker can suck you in!
