Anyone else having trouble getting the PS3 to detect the iPod touch?

Doesnt see it at all, iPod nano is detected and original iPods.
Other forums speculate at the later version ie Touch and iPhone :

Starting with the iPhone Apple eliminated the Hard drive mode. Which means the iPhone cannot be browsed like the other iPods. Im not 100% sure, but almost certain that ALL the newer iPods have gone the same route. This means that you WILL need iTunes to look at files in your iPod. But, I could be wrong, best way is to test it on your PC, just plug it to your PC (without running iTumes, disable the iTunes autostart) and see if your PC detects it as a USB mass storage device. If it doesnt, then your PS3 wont either.

Anyone else having issues as it would be handy !
I know media server is handy too and i have most of my music and videos on my PS3 already, just need to know for when i run out of space..

Yeah that's pretty much the problem. I have the touch as well and can only use it with itunes which is such a piece of garbage on windows. I have always used my ipods with linux but now it can't even detect the thing when connected to the pc.

Their official word on this was that it was done to prevent piracy but this is just another in a long line of apple moves to lock users into their own software\products.
I think the other new models of ipod should work with the ps3. You just can't use other software to save music to them or they will report that there is no music on them afterwards.

Poontang..... in other words you have to go buy a new piece of equipment that has the letter "i" in front of it to play your music even though you have forked out decent spondoolies on a iPod Touch and a PS3.

I don't understand why Apple do this. You fork out the guts of €300 for an mp3 player and you are forced into using their s/w to manage what goes onto it.

Apple have always been like that.
