It aired on HBO: On Demand today so yes, it's definitely "out there"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,504 ✭✭✭chalkitdown1

    That was a great episode.

So many characters from previous seasons aren't in it anymore, though.
    Prez, Cutty, Bunny Colvin :(
    I miss 'em.

Alas my (normally reliable) American cousins don't appear to have 'On Demand' so it appears it's not "out there".

The Wire: The Last Word which is sort of an extended promo of the coming season is "out there" and also available on the hbo website here so perhaps some people are getting confused.

Anyway it's just another week to wait so no biggie :).

    Episode 2 is now available.:D

Apparently, the guy releasing these screeners has upto episode 8 in his possession. I bet HBO are pissed.

Does that mean we can expect ep 3 tomorrow?

    Just watched episode 2
Solid episode. Didn't expect Avon to return to the show. That was a nice surprise. Still no sign of Omar, though, which is disappointing. Or Prez. I presume he won't be returning? Shame. He was one of my favourite characters.

What was McNulty doing at the end? Changing the crimescene to suit himself, so he wouldn't have to bother solving it?

Episode 5 has now been leaked. Not 3 or 4, but only 5. lol

lol at releasing 5 before release 3 and 4..

Have seen episode 1. Good start, great to have it back even if it is only for a short time, and last time! Still great stuff, has the good old feel to it.
I guess Prez,Cutty and Colvin's stories were kind of concluded, perhaps they might come back for an episode or two.

FYI It actually appears to be episode 7 mislabeled as episode 5 which has been released along with 1 & 2.

How's the quality? It's sitting on my PC, waiting to be watched tomorrow. I figure I need to treat myself with that and the Rome series finale before heading back to work on Thursday.

The picture is perfect, DVD rip quality, but there's some crackling in the audio during music. Just the opening and End credits, basically.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,280 ✭✭✭jArgHA

hows the new opening track/sequence? I read on Wikipedia some time back that Steve Earle would be doing the song this time round and really like his music.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,727 ✭✭✭✭Sherifu

watched episode 1, have got 2 down for later.
lol at releasing ep 7 too, i hate when they get leaked out of order.
its always tempting to watch them :)

    episode 1 was good
lmao @ the photocopier opening sequence
i preferred other seasons opening tracks, the new one is only ok

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,070 ✭✭✭Placebo

i preferred seasons 3's music, where womans singing = could be 2nd season.
this ones a bit so so.

Great stuff - and I propose to start a proper discussion thread later on with kearnsr's permission (pointless putting it all here).
One thing though - nice to see Clark Johnson back! David Simon hasn't forgotten his Homicide crew :)

Oh ****, I haven't finished rewatching season 4 yet!. Tomorrow will be an epic wire day for sure :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,788 ✭✭✭tvnutz

6 is about the place now,so we have 1,2,5,6 and 7. Last three aren't much use without 3 and 4 but once we get them it will be a Wire marathon! :D

  • Site Banned Posts: 5,676 ✭✭✭jayteecork

Only seen eps 1,2, and 7 on my source.
Maybe I'm not looking hard enough.

Edit: over at my sister's right now downloading episode 2. Can't download it at mine as I'm on the three broadband modem and they charge you for going over the limit, :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,070 ✭✭✭Placebo

yeah need 3 and 4, wud be stupid to watch 5 straight away after 1 and 2

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,504 ✭✭✭chalkitdown1

Looks like HBO's lawyers are gettin' busy, the ep's are disappearing from certain torrent sites.

  • Site Banned Posts: 5,676 ✭✭✭jayteecork

Doesn't look like episodes 3&4 are going to make it online, looks like whoever stole the review screeners doesn't have em.
Unless another batch makes it on the net (highly unlikely now) looks like we're gonna have to wait.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,788 ✭✭✭tvnutz

Ah crap :p I have 1,2,5,6 and 7. Can't understand how anyone could watch 5 and on without seeing 3 and 4 but if you look at some other boards it appears that is happening

Since I have seen 1 and 2,I now I have to wait 3 weeks for the next new one :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,691 ✭✭✭DeepBlue

Tbh I'm glad they got taken down.
I wouldn't have been able to resist getting them all and then season five would have been over all too quickly :(.

Also the sound quality on those tapes the American cousins sent over was atrocious .

yep the sound is really awful it sounds to me like there is clipping in the audio. this basically means that the top of the sound wave has been lost because the audio was not captured correctly (volume set too high). the music track at the beginning especially sounds really crap because of this

Fans are going to watch the show as soon as it becomes available.
It's pointless stifling discussion amongst those that have already seen the episodes as they aren't going to come back weeks later to post what they would have posted when they initially watched the show.

Anyone who doesn't want to get spoiled just has to see the word SPOILERS in the thread title and know to stay away from that thread if they don't want to get, you know, spoiled.
Easy really I would have thought!

Totally disagree, the wire is a show that is best watched all in a row,i.e best watched on dvd rather than on tv. It has been mentioned several times that the show unfolds much like a novel, and it would be very annoying to read a chapter of a novel and then have to wait a week before you can read the next one. When watched in a row or within a short amount of time, the storylines are much easier to follow and are more gripping. I also don't want it to end quickly because it is my favourite tv show ever, but it is the best way to watch it.

As for the sound,it was bad during the music but other than that it was very acceptable, you could hear everything fine.

I watched seasons 1-4 in a row and it is easier to follow the story than if i had been waiting week to week.

Yeah I watched seasons 1-4 in the space of about 2 weeks early in 2007. :)

Just reading an interesting review by a Baltimore Sun journalists who got the season 5 screener. He said while overall the season was good, he thought the Baltimore Sun scenes really let the season down. I found that quite interesting.

Did he say why? David Simon worked as a journalist for the Baltimore Sun, so it's not as if doesn't know exactly what he's talking about.

Is this the same story that you read?

I'm not sure he could really rate the whole season without seeing the last few episodes. Most seasons start off relatively slowly and build to a crescendo towards the finale.

That article is from the Baltimore Sun itself! Of course they are going to say that part was a let down, anyone who has seen the first 2 episodes will agree that the paper hasn't exactly been depicted in a great way!

Indeed and he acknowledges as much in the article. He knows that nobody will believe him - I don't :)
I'm more inclined to go with Variety (a very respectable publication) and their take on the portrayal of the media in S5:
Journalists are no exception, yet after years of grasping for even a moderately realistic portrait, they can finally point to by far the most accurate presentation of their craft ever: the final season of HBO's dense urban drama "The Wire."
The best look at newspapers in movies or TV? Hands down, the prize goes to "The Wire."
That sounds like it's pretty authentic :)
