Fota Island?

We're looking at renting a holiday home for a week around easter next year and I like to get a bit of golf in whenever we do. Past few years we have done Mount Wolsely once and the Heritage twice. I was looking at Fota island as Milltown Jr. will be 4 and the wildlife park would make a nice plus for him, and would be free with our Dublin zoo membership.

Has anyone been? If you're local to it, tell me what the course and place is like. If you've stayed in the hotel or lodges your opinions are all the more valuable!

FWIW Mrs.Milltown isn't averse to spending a day wrapped in towels or robes in a spa either, so comment on it if you can.

    Thanks in advance.

I spent a weekend at the hotel a couple of months back and it's a pretty nice place - not cheap but nice. The staff were friendly, the food was good, room was lovely etc. The Mrs spent the day in the Spa and found it very enjoyable.
Regarding the golf, Fota has 27 holes now and alternate between three different nines - when you book you will be told which course in play (check their website) but the original 18 are the best with the new nine still a bit young to vote on but I'm sure they will be good once they mature.
The wildlife park is also pretty good - junior will love it - check out the cheetah run (I think that's what it is called) when they feed the cheetas, well worth watching - plenty of other animals to keep young and old entertained for a few hours.
    Hope that helps.

I have played there over a dozen times this year and love the place. The Deerpark course (original) is in great condition, grens are a bit slow but to be expected this time of year.

The new nine have improved dramatically in the past 6 months. The greens are awsome and the design is great. The fairwas needed to recover from drainage work and they are fine now.

If you're looking at self catering think of Trabolgan, great for kids and still in East Cork.
