    hi,

what side arm weapon do you carry?
im looking for the best quality p&s compact camera i can get (you know something i can carry discretely when out and about), ruling out bridge and DSLR (as i already have a DSLR and still getting to grips with it). What p&s camera is worthy to reside in your pocket?

i use a lumix LX2, cant reccomend it more, it has full manual mode and decent zoom for the size of the body, also has 10.2 MP and can take those high capacity SD cards aswell as shoot in raw.,

I'd also consider the Canon G9.

I know a 5D user who has a Canon G9 as well, and loves it. It'd be the one I'd buy too, i had a shot of it and it's a cracking wee thing.

I started looking into those lumix cameras a while ago and at the time the high iso performance was even more crap than the usual for p&s's.

I think there are a few other threads on this, worth your while doing a search on the forum too...

I recommended a G9 for a mate for underwater photography and general P&S shenanigans. He couldn't be happier. Tho he did get it cheap in the states.

I have a G9 and am very happy with it, good solid piece of kit. The only quibble I would have with it is the shutter button could be a bit more prominent. There is a little ring around it that controls the zoom and makes it a little awkward.

With memory cards available so cheaply, why would you want to limit yourself with a consideration like that?

In fact, a quick look on pixmania searching by CF gives only dslr results. You can get SD cards pretty cheap so it doesn't factor too much into the overall cost of the p&s I'd say.

Unfortunately , though dpreview give detailed information about all the cameras they review , the ratings are almost always identical , its either recommended or highly recommended. So basically , though its a great site , you must wade through all the info and decide for yourself if its for you ,

The G9 does raw , and it looks great to a photo gear head like me , cos it sort of looks like an old leica , It also has all the bells and whistles I'd want for a carry round compact.

The other one though , is too plasticky and touristy for me.
