I have an 8 year old daughter who loves to run. I have no idea how to get her into the world of athletics. Can anyone tell me of a kids running club in the Shannon area? Ennis and UL are too far but if there was something in between?

Well the only athletics clubs that I know of..

    in Limerick are:
    Dooneen A.C, Emerald A.C, Limerick A.C

    in Clare is:
    Marian A.C

Not sure if there are any others..someone else may be able to correct me though.

If these are all really to far from you, how about look towards your local GAA club? Ladies football/Camogie all involve running!

Perhaps you could take her to open sports on Sundays when the season starts back. Great fun and nice family day out.
I'v great memories of open sports:)

thanks a million for all the responses. She plays camogie already and loves it. I have never heard of open sports on sundays...can you tell me a bit more about it?

Im also into running myself and would love to join a club for adults in Shannon, Im pretty slow though but have ran seven 10k races in the past 2 years. Maybe I should find more like minded people and see about setting up a club for adults and kids in Shannon?

there used to be an athletics club in shannon not sure if it is still there but it used be very active in the 80's. There was also one is Sixmilebridge, again I don't know if its still around - I think it used be called Olympic Harriers.

Just looked up a local directories website and found:

    Shannon Athletic Club
    Address 9 Killian Park, Shannon
    Contact Dr. Peter Flynn
    Position Chairperson
