What ever you do, go to a dentist for it.

A lot of beauty salons do this treatment now. A friend thought she'd save a few quid going down this route, but ended up in agony for weeks because they spilt some of the bleach solution on her gums during the treatment.

Buy a pack of Crest Whitestrips (around $20), do the two week programme and you'll have super-white teeth for approximately 12 months.

I did it, my friends did it, family also and it worked for everyone.

You have to order them from the states, I think the site is www.otc.ie

The Crest Whitestrips are brilliant. Highly recommended!

i used them a couple of years ago, but I was still smoking quite heavily at the time.. so I'd smoke before, during and after I took them out..

I even missed quite a few days, probably stretched the two week package into 3-4 weeks. But at the end, I wouldn't say my teeth were bright white... but they were definitely several shades better than they were before.

would these be also recomemnded for those of us who are missing back teeth or are they really only for front teeth?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,288 ✭✭✭✭ntlbell

does your PRSI cover any part of the teeth whitening or does it come under cosmetic?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,588 ✭✭✭✭yabadabado

if u have enough PRSI contributions paid go to ur dentist and get ur teeth scraped and polished its free twice a year and then buy the crest whitestrips.thats what i did and it made a huge difference.
edit:if u ring ur dentist give them ur pps no. and they will find out have you got enough contributions paid.here is a break down of what you need

I wouldn't imagine they'd work on any man made material tbh, they'd just whiten the area around the filling.. I could be wrong though..

No they won't work on crowns or anything like that. I get mine from the states, i think someone mentioned the website before www.otc.com, costs me about €50 for 2 boxes and you pay using google checkout and deleviery is quick!

Has anyone that had braces tried these? I would really love whiter teeth but I'm afraid to try it incase it goes horribly wrong. I am also a student and can't really afford anything too expensive. Also I heard that your teeth have to be totally straight or else the whitening wont turn out perfect!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 500 ✭✭✭Ya-Boy-Ya

I got it done in SMILES in Dublin I wouldnt recommend it.
Veneers are the thing to save for.
Or else get them done in another country....much cheaper.

I got mine today and it says on the box not to use them if you have braces so I'd wait if I were you...

I used to have braces, when i got them off i got my teeth bleached from a dental practice for €499. They look well, but my teeth are now very sensitive and in cold weather my teeth sting

Hi - just in relation to ordering them from Ebay I had them within a week and received an email the same day I bought them saying that they had posted them... Haven't tried them out yet though so fingers crossed!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,823 ✭✭✭Raoul

Is there anywhere else to get them apart from ebay where you don't need a credit card. All I have is a laser card at the moment.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,156 ✭✭✭jcsmum

They will probably make bits of your teeth if you use one box straight after another

Says on the website that you can use them back to back ie one set for half an hour and then another set for a half hour straight after and I did that and I was in agony for the night :( have been afraid to put them on again since.. :o

Yea, I used one after the other too for a couple of weeks and my teeth were in agony. I have whiter teeth now so guess it was worth it!

What about the eBay kits like:

12 SHADES 35% LASER TEETH TOOTH WHITENING WHITER WHITE

35% Carbamide Peroxide with Blue Laser Accelorator??

    Has anybody tried these?

What are the downsides of using these white strips? Surely they can't be good for you?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,987 ✭✭✭_Whimsical_

Smiles Dental Spa opened in Galway in the last few months and they regularly advertise 2 for 1 specials on whitening (generally for inappropriate occasions.Their recent Valentines Day "say it with half price teeth whitening" promotion springs to mind).I think they have "dentals spas" all over the country. Might be worth keeping an eye on their deals if you want to get it done professionally and could drag along a friend to shoulder E300 of the burden! Their site is www.smiles.ie .

I went to Smiles in Galway for the Take Home Kit. They take impressions of your teeth and make you a little seethrough teeth-shaped shield that fits over your teeth perfectly. You put some gel on the fronts of the mould and slip it onto your teeth for an hour a day for 12 days.

I'm on day 2 now and people are already noticing a change.

Some of my teeth are sensitive from it at the moment though. I'm going to skip tonight and go back onto it again tomorrow. It's not agony, but I want to be careful all the same.

I'm using Sensodyne Enamel Strengthening Toothpaste at the moment to counteract it a bit.

The advantage of this way is that after 12 days you're done and you only have to top up rarely after that (about once every 18months for 2 nights or so).

It cost me €300 but I had a voucher for €100 I got for Christmas, so I paid €200

I had a friend who had it done and her dentist told her to put Sensodyne in the shield and wear it for 10 mins after she'd finished the whitening and washed the shield clean of bleach. She found it completely fixed the sensitive teeth problem.
