FAO Bankroll Nits

I play mostly cash but the odd tournament, maybe 3 a week. I was just wondering how people manage their bankrolls when it comes to deciding what buyins to play in?
What I'm thinking (as someone who plays mostly cash) is to set my max tournament buy-in at half of my current cash level. ie, if I'm playing $50nl I'll play the $22 tournaments.
    Anyone have thoughts on this?

I play mostly cash too so when I'm playing tournaments it's because I want to play poker or I'm bored but too tired to play cash. Therefore I'll usually just play whatever's running around a tenner.

I think tight bankroll requirements are around 100 buy-ins but I could be wrong.

I tend not to play anything over 2% of my roll. I imagine most go higher but half your buyin for cash seems as good as rule as any

I'm moderately nitty with bankroll, I have a huge amount of buyins for my main games, but I do believe in taking shots at both cash games and tournaments, so if a tournament is good I am prepared to play in it even if it is 10x my usual cash game buyin.

I'm sure there'll be much more definitive answers, but from my perspective I honestly have no clue about an MTT bankroll.

I only recently thought about this and for me you need a lot of BI's for your particular level MTT-wise. Reason being the most successful MTT players online get ITM 15/16% (1 in 6 give or take.) Irrespective of how much they make ROI/profit wise I know that I'm not in that bracket. Now I know that I will be ITM a smaller % of the time and my game will not allow me to make the same amount of FT's or even get a lot of return through MTT's. So I know that to cover the BI's used for the 1 in 9 or so times I'll cash in these events I need to have a fairly substantial roll to cover my own arse and get a substantial return when I do get ITM. If I was to go tourney only I'd try $5 ones with at least $200 to start off. I'd say 40 BI's wouldn't be too bad but still not enough

With all the variance and time spent bubbling or just boring me at times I don't nor won't take tourney's too seriously or invest much time in them. For me I could get some coaching and make a better profit over the course of time with cash games. That said I love playing the odd decent tourney for a change of scenery and there is no better way boosting your BR with a nice tourney score.

Fox's article (the second one down in the br section) is the best I've seen
