Hi, Having problem with spam, I installed Norton Internet security via eircom and this is still not blocking spam. I hear there is free software available - are these any good? Are there any dangers?
    What would you recommend?

I'd recommend spending a little money on the CA internet security suite.

The Anti-Spam is pretty good, The firewall is one of the best of breed.
The Anti-Spyware is without a doubt the best on the market and the AV
is the same one I reccommend for my customers.

The licence is pretty good value thanks to the weak dollar and even
better in that it covers 3 individual system licences so you can cover your laptop too.

    cros13..

I have seen a previous where you have recommended CA for Anti-Virus s/w....However you mentioned that you use CA for Mac's and not for the Windows platform.

Quote:I run a linux only shop but CA is what I've always put my stamp of approval on.
The situation may have changed in the windows security market.
It's been quite a while since i looked at much else i must admit.

So while a high percentage use Windows over Mac, perhaps you should clarify what OS you are basing your preferance as CA is not widely recognised for it's AV s/w...

Spamfighter is free , and works well, i found redirecting any problem a/cs through g mail works a treat :), my brother was getting 6 to 10 every hour on his blackberry , redirecting his eircom a/c through g mail totally eliminated them

Cros13, this is the second time you have made these claims, and with the exact same wording. Where is the data to back this up? You said yourself "It's been quite a while since i looked at much else i must admit." I find it hard to believe that you can recommend a product that has been received so negatively.

    To quote:

"CA failed to detect almost half of all spyware and adware; its catch rate of 56 percent was the worst recorded for any of the eight suites in our roundup."

"Though CA might provide some nice hand-holding for a beginning user, its terrible performance at keeping a PC safe makes it suitable for no one. Avoid this suite."

I've used Cloudmark for the last few years and it's extremely effective. I like the fact that it learns via it's community also. Still it's not the cheapest for an app. that just handles Spam.
