AFAIK, that is a good flash. Been looking into sigma flashes myself but plumped for the Sigma EM-140 ringflash as I primarilly want it for macro shots. A friend has the EF-500 and says it is a very good flash.

Shop around though, I found good prices on the net.

I have one and am very happy with it. It's not as well built as the Canon 580EX but then it's not as expensive either. I don't use flash that often (just family shots and the occasional wedding) and for such infrequent use I would highly recommend it. It will do everything the Canon does at a fraction of the cost. If I was shooting weddings or other social events on a regular basis lI would probably get the Canon purely because of the build quality. For light amateur use the Sigma can't be beaten.

Here is a wedding photo taken in Cyprus using the Sigma flash.
