    I can't take it anymore.

I can't take these dreadful, dreadful hangovers that leave me spending the next day laying in bed like a crippled old man occasionally sitting up to vomit the booze from the night before.

I came here because I understand this forum is not a forum of moderation. If I had posted this issue in the alcohol forum I would be told to drink less. But I enjoy my over indulgence, I am greedy like that and I not only want to over indulge... I want to avoid the physical consequences the next day also.

I don't want bad hangovers anymore.

So I have come here to ask for your help.

    - What can you do to prevent a hangover
Is there any tricks of the trade
What beer produces the least hangover
    Do the lifelines work -

Please I need your help I know I will not be disappointed

just start drinking again the second you feel one coming on, you'll be as sound as a ninepence

I feel your pain. I was out last night and indulged in quiet a lot of sambuca. I'm in an absolute heap today. I've actually gotten worse as the day goes on. I think I may go to bed early tonight.

Apparently drinking as couple of glasses of water before you go to bed is meant to help. I've never tried it though.

Nothing works, you just have to take it like a man.

Actually, that's not quite right, if you can sleep until about 6pm the following day you should be OK, but apart from that nothing works.

Drinking doesn't cause hangovers, stopping does.

So I presume you are stopping? Keep at it lad and you'll be fine.

(which has got me thinking. How long could a person stay drunk? Are there any records for this? Would make a good tv show.
Incidentially my longest is 65-70 hours. 2 hours sleep and the rest drinking
edit: Actually its probably more, due to festivals. But my 65-70 hrs is for the 'seriously pissed' category)

when youre drunk youre dehydrated, i dont know the proper story so im not gonna waffle.
when you drink water you are reintroducing the water taken out of your body. 3 pint glasses usually does the trick, or 2 pints then one by the bed as you sleep. works for me when i remember to do it

Think the most important thing to minimize hangovers for me is EAT EAT EAT. Before you go to bed and when you wake up as well as drink a lot of water.

Before ya bgo to bed drink a good few pints of water and eat a few Green Isle chicken coujons. Then make sure ya wake up a few minutes before a football match, get a few chicken rolls and watch football to keep your mind on things!

Not drinking would be the best way but since I know that doesn't answer your problems take:

    - 1 Ginger Root Pill (proven most effective against Nausea/Vomiting)
    - 1 Multi-Vitamin
    - 8 oz. of Water and if you can stomach it which you will if you take the ginger pill add a squeeze of lemon juice and tbsp honey to rebalance electrolytes
    - food: carbohydrates and fruit...maybe protein too (eggs)...if youre out get a stop at McDonalds and get that McMuffin thingy with eggs, sausage, and ketchup.

It won't "get rid" of your Hangover it will only mask it so you don't feel like crap.

*not a doctor... if you sh*t a pancreas, catch gonorrhea from McDonalds ketchup, or die...I'm not responsible.

Yip, eat before you go out, eat before bed, just eat eat eat.

Closes the stomach, reducing alcohol absorption into the blood by the intestine. A nasty side effect of this is not feeling drunk in the first place.:(

See...I'm the opposite -- if I'm really drunk, if I eat I'll be so sick...
I have to stay away from food when drunk.

Maybe change what you are drinking it worked for me,I was getting mad hangovers a few years ago and then I switched to Guinness and they are not as bad now.Different drinks work for different people, your body needs to get used to one drink so try not to mix what you are drinking.

WTF is a Ginger Root Pill? Multi-vitamins? They are for the wimmins. 8oz of water? What's this, cookery class?

Take your alchemy over to the Ladies Lounge where they might at least know what you are talking about.

OP: There are a few fundamental problems here.

Firstly, you are obviously not in shape. Your body simply cannot handle more than 6-8 pints, by the sounds of it. So, you need to get in shape. You need to practice your drinking so you can regularly handle more than 12 pints and not fall over like a girl.

Secondly, prevention is better than cure. Before you go to bed after a night drinking, lower a few shots of your favourite spirit. This will ensure you will sleep through any hangover you may encounter.

Thirdly, and finally, if you do wake up with a hangover, fight fire with fire - crack open a can to numb the pain. You'll be right as rain in no time.

It's ok mate. Uncle Peter here to the rescue. I've had alcohol poisoning and got over that without being admitted to hospital, so listen up.

Mixing drinks will give you a hangover, and so will drinking crap beer (be it a bad brand or crap pints).

The best beers you can drink are the weiss beers (Erdinger, etc). Budvar, Warsteiner and Erdinger tend to not give you hangovers, however this all depends on your hydration level.

No matter what, always drink 2 pints of water (yes 2, not 1) when you get home. What I usually do is grab a bottle of water from a chippy on the long walk home, drink it during the walk and have another pint of water before bed. That will make sure you're a bit hydrated in the morning.

If you are going to act the man (I often do it) and mix every drink behind the bar then there is only one thing for you: Alka Seltzer.

It works a charm, always. Have two of these, followed by lots of water (several glasses the first hour). If you have stopped puking by this stage, and are tired then sleep. If you're not tired, but have stopped puking and are still feeling a bit dodge, have some toast. Just one slice. Then nurse a pint or bottle of beer for the next hour or so. Get another one into you, and then go to sleep. When you wake your hangover is gone.

There are no magic cures, you just need to hydrate your body, settle your stomach and give the body a small bit of alcohol so you're not going cold turkey after poisoning your body.

Eating before you go out with the aim of getting less drunk is a bit ****ing pointless in my opinion. My point about eating lots was to minimize the hangover not to stop you getting drunk.

    Ok ok.

I agreed that eating is the solution. I was adding that it also allows for a greater drinking capacity because you're not drunk as quick...but still doesn't stop a determined brother or brotherette

Yes, a pint of water before bed does reduce the hangover, but there is no way to get rid of it completely. Be a man and tough it out.

What he said. Cowboy up.

Too much water during the night shift can leave you waking early, pi$$ing like a race horse ... not so good. Know your water limits.

The morning after the night before, I find a nice mug of tea, and a good hard sh1t, in sequence, sort out any semblance of a hangover.

Sometimes, I need two mugs. Generally, once I've dropped the shopping, and had a very hot shower ... I'm grand.

If mrs trout brings me in the second mug, without asking, I know she still really loves me, and I didn't disgrace myself so badly the night before ... Apparently, I'm a hoor for talking when I'm full of soup.

I think the best thing to do is just stay in bed until it's over. The bed is like a cocoon that will protect you from the evils of the world such as excessive movement. You'll also likely slip into and out of sleep quite a bit so that you'll sleep most of it off.

What I do to avoid hangovers:
    -Avoid mixing drinks.
-Drink a pint or two of water in the pub before you leave.
-Eat something before you go to bed(grab chips on the way home or something)
-When you get home, don't go to bed immediately. Half the amount of pints/units of alcohol you've drank, take away the amount of pints of water you drank in the pub, and stay up for about an hour drinking that many pints of water and going for písses.
-Have a pint of water beside your bed that you can drink if you wake up thirsty.
-Have Rennies beside your bed too, if you wake up with an upset stomach, reach for them, take 2 and try to go back to sleep.
-Sleep for as long as possible.

Drinking pints of water in a pub ???
That's a bit like beastiality...frowned upon in public, so best done in the privacy of your own home !!!

There is a patented way to escape a hangover for those of us lucky enough to live in Dublin.....it is called "the Manhattan breakfast". The place may look like a sh*thole from the outside but the greasy goodness that they serve within has saved me on many occassions.

Of course staying off shots like sambuca also helps.....Shots were designed for the purpose of getting wimmen drunk enough to have sex with and should not be consumed by men !

What she said. Bloody Marys all the way - the wee bit of vodka to get you back on the horse without it tasting too much of alcohol (once you've one in ya, you'll be able for pints), the chilli opens your capillaries (or something) which clears the fuzzy feeling in your head and the tomato juice is practically breakfast.

Combine this with some super strong pain killers, best (IMO) if you can American strength Advil, and berocca or alka seltzer or rennie or whatever to settle your stomach.

Perhaps add some Cheese & Onion Tayto afterwards, before or during your first pint. Lovely jubbly.

Ahhh Tom Dunnes post made me cry laughing!!

I only really get hungover from wine. I agree with the eat eat eat philosophy! and drink lots of water but I've manys a time cured a hangover with more drink, especially around the 4 o'clock mark! (6 o'clock if im hungover in work :( )

Anyone tried those hangover tablets that you take before a night out? what are they called again? you can get them in boots, theyve a pic of a glass of wine on them! My bro tried them and said they worked a treat! Ooh lifeline! Try them if you're not man enough to roll with the punches of a hangover ;)

AFAIK they have activated charcoal in them, which means you'll just get less drunk.

Yup. Just stops you from absorbing so much alcohol into your bloodstream and hence lessens drunkeness(and therefore lessens the hangover).
