Have you tried Private Practice? I've heard it has improved A LOT since the pilot - haven't gotten around to watching it though. Heard good things about Pushing Daisies. Friday Night Lights is very good, it's slow tempo but enjoyable - it's on it's second season. In a cast interview they said it has as much to do with football as Grey's has to do with medicine.

You should give Jericho a shot too. Theres only been 1 season so far so you dont have too much to catch up on before the 2nd which should be out in January sometime. Great little show about a town thats survived numerous nuclear attacks all over America, with a great cast too. Last episode was phenomenal television.

Arrested development is one of the smarter comedies around.
    There's no laugh track either.

If you liked the Wire then I suggest The Shield. I fell across it about 4 months ago and couldn't stop at one episode a night. I was doing 4 at one point. ;) Season 7 is due out soon in the US, the first 6 are well worth a look. If the first episode doesn't snare you then give up!

The Class? Only prob is that it's on a sat evening at 6 with 2 shows back to back. Gonna get better as it goes along.

Somebody already recommended House so, I'll second that...it's great! I have only watched one episode of Life and Journeyman but, they look like pretty good shows! Bones is OK too, it's pretty popular! I'll second Dexter and I think Nip/Tuck is great too!

does any1 here watch House and Jericho???
If so, which is better, i dont want to be starting to watch too many tv shows!

    EDIT: Dexter sounds pretty good!

I don't watch both but, House has been on for longer and it's great...I'd recommend that first as you have alot of catchin up to do :p I intend on watching Jericho sometime soon!

I personally thought "Jericho" was woeful - watched about the first seven. I'm told it got better after that but I'm always going to doubt given the dreadful quality of the first few.

Of the other two "Dexter" is the most consistent. It also benefits from having a strong story threading through each season. The first season, for example, is based on the first Dexter novel and the second season has its own, pretty much self-contained, story.

"House" is good also and is a more episodic show (bar a few small arcs here and there). It's easier to watch in single instalments and it's lighter in tone - very witty at times too.

Jericho is one of the worst TV shows i've ever seen.

Dexter is brilliant though, you won't be disappointed!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,788 ✭✭✭tvnutz

Dexter is brilliant, well worth watching. Agree with most posts on Jericho's first half of the season,it was fairly bad,but I watched on and it does improve considerably. So it really comes down to whether or not you want to watch about 7-9 episode of crap to arrive at another bunch of episode that are watchable, but nothing amazing.

Oh and if you have never seen Alias, you should give it a watch, just bought all 5 seasons on dvd and have re-watched the first 2 so far. They are just brilliant,I remember it declining in quality after season 2 but not by much and it has been so long since I have seen it. Brilliant first 2 seasons though.

Havent seen much of House myself, but I have heard it highly recommended from many trusted sources, so I've vote for that.

Avatar is one I cant stop recommending to people. Its a cartoon mind, but I wouldnt let that stop you. Watch 4 episodes minimum and never look back ;)

I love Peep Show and Curb Your Enthusiasm, can see why they wouldn't be everyones cub of tea though!!

i watched private practice and jericho so far, i enjoyed both of them, i found private practice to be a nice continuity from addison shepphards story in grey's. And jericho seemed interseting and very watchable. I will watch the first episodes of dexter and house laterl.

I liked it so much that I've even gone ahead and ordered "Darkly dreaming Dexter" for myself, which is saying a lot given how little I read books these days...
Can't wait for season 3 to start:)

Extras is well worth a watch as well if you're after a few lols

Life on Mars starts tonight on Bravo from Episode 1.
I gorged on this over Christmas, and I absolutely loved it.
Sky+ the series (16 episodes in total) with Series Link, and enjoy!

Another strong recommendation here for Dexter. Just a brilliant show.

If you want to check out something old then give Duckman a try. I'm plowing thru it atm.

Damages, the legal drama starring Glenn Close, recently started on BBC1 - two episodes so far. Episode two is being repeated on Friday night if you're in or if you can record it. It's absolutely fantastic. It's been on Sunday night so far but I think the Beeb is moving it to Monday night.
Intriguing stuff - more twists than you can shake a stick at. And great multi-dimensional characters. It's a really dark, thrilling programme. Watch.

no they are supposed to be really really good. I heard they are excellent. Apparently rte have commissioned a new series of "making jake" and a full one of the roaring 20's.

The new series of the former sees Jake set to jet off to cape town south africa in his new series called "cape in Jake" where he goes to shanty towns pulling the piss outta the locals. Should be greeeat!

Here's hoping that the next series will see Jake going to Saudi Arabia where he'll go round to fundamentalists taking the piss out of Mohammad...

From a few years back "Dead Like Me" - great show, same guy has done Pushing Daisies.
Journeyman - likely to be a one season show but great

They could call it "Mecca'n Jake"

Yep, RTE have commissioned this as "Jake'n'Faith" where Jake brings his charm to all the religions of the world, pretending to adopt their faith and see how they react when he can't fully get their customs. There's a particularly funny gag upcoming where he's coming out of a fundamentalist temple, at prayer, and Jake - hilariously and originally - whistles at the wives of his "fellow" muslims!!! It'll be a must see!!

Good to see you've started watching Jericho! It's one of my favourites. Finished watching the first season for the second time a few days ago. Season 2 is starting on Hallmark on Friday 16th May. Can't wait. I hear that season ends with as much of a cliffhanger as the first! Other shows you should check out are 24 which is the best TV show I've ever seen. Law & Order SVU is very good too! Others would include Stargate SG1 & Stargate Atlantis. If you want to go for 80's TV then I recommend checking out Macgyver & V! Top viewing!

Sorry, you heard wrong :( There are only 8 episodes in Season 2, it was cancelled.

OP, I hope you've started watching House and/or Dexter by now!

No cliffhanger on Jericho either... They had 2 endings filmed, and they showed the 'non-cliffhanger' version. I'm sure the cliffhanger version will be on the DVD later this summer.

Jericho could still be saved, their looking for another network to pick it up - so it will be ages before a new season comes around, but at least theres a chance!

Wouldn't hold my breath. Especially with the ending that aired. I mean, not every detail was wrapped up
    like Jake/Eric killing Constantinu
but not sure what they'd do if it was picked up again
after Jake and Hawkins got the bomb to Texas
