Right, pupaphobia is the fear of puppets.
How do you pronounce it. I would pronounce it like pupil, pupa etc.
But this other cnut is saying it's pronounced like pup, puppet etc.
No entry in wikipedia or dictionary.com

I'd have said pupa as in the insect larval thing, but I have no way of knowing for sure.
Pretty surprised that pupophobia is the fear of puppets....it's usually something compleltely different from the name...

[edit] I only skimmed that article before I posted it but
It is worth noting that ''puppet'' comes from the Latin ''pupa,'' which is not only the root for the French word for doll, poupee (Freud's example of an uncanny object), and the English word puppy, but also the name for a creature enclosed in a cocoon, not quite alive and not quite dead.

Would appear to contradict both and agree with both...

[edit2] Since phobias are latin words, you'd have to say it's the latin bit and that's pronounced pu-pae

Poopa-phobia. We revert more to the Latin origin...I think.
Puppet is a bastardised pronunciation... mmm.

Yeah I reckon it would only be pup as in puppet if it had two consecutive ps. Like puppaphobia. Would it be worth posting on one of the other fora?

I have a word for the makeyupperpersonthingy. It's just not very polite. Moving the thread to English before we ruin it further.
