Xmas non-sales

Hit town today for some business/business-casual wear and was very disappointed all around.

I normally go to the sales this time every year and this year was the worst in terms of value and range.

BT had some good reductions in Gant, but only if you were sized XXXL or S.

One really nice Paul Smith Overcoat was priced at €600 with 30% off. Exact same over-coat in Alias Tom was €800 with 40% off. I think they must throw darts at a board to come up with some of the prices.

I did a trawl of the menswear shops pre-Xmas and I noticed today that a lot of the 'premium' stock and lines were pulled of the sales completely today.

Interestingly enough, TK Maxx in Stephens Green had a few Paul Smith ties going for €30. Normally these retail anywhere from €100 to €120, but the style of the ones TK Maxx had looked like they were a bunch of hideous psychedelic remainders that were sold back into the discounters.

Suitable Company on Grafton St. are usually worth a punt this time of year, but instead of heavily discounted Armani stock, their entire shop was stocked by some Italian brand I've never heard of.

Came home empty-handed for the first time in years. I don't think I was the only one. Plenty of people about, but I didn't notice many buying.

Came home empty handed too. Thought it might have been my expectations going up?

Had nothing to do so headed off to Mahon point shopping centre for a look around and came out empty handed as well, no biggie.

But spent 15 mins looking for car space and it ****ing took me 1 and a half hour to get out of the car park afterwards

I went into town yesterday too and came home empty handed (for the first time ever).

BT2 had some decent enough stuff with 40%/30% off, but nothing in the size I was looking for.
Arnotts had their usual 30% off old stock and no sale for their 'new season' stuff.
G-Star (in Debenhams) had 30% off a select amount of rubbish and the rest of their nice stuff was full price.
I was so pissed off that I didn't even bother going to Urban Outfitters (btw was that any good?)

    Very disappointing this year.

I found the exact same in blanch. Went into most male clothes shops out there & came home empty handed. Most of the stuff seemed like old stock put out to clear.

Yea, me too. Had my eye on a jacket in M&S before Xmas, decided to leave it until sale time - same price in the "sale". Just a few socks n shirts n stuff, not a reals ale at all. Same in most other shops.

Went to BT, they had a "50% off rack". Could have got 50% off a 350Euro T-Shirt (I KID YOU NOT! 350Euro for a T-Shirt!!). People who can afford that type of money don't really need 50% off.

Happy New Year to all readers

Currys and Powercity a load of crap also - no real offers and stickers said to ask salespeople for extra discount - not worth the effort!

Not much about Cork either. Bought a few things in BTs and Quills for my bf but that was about it. Managed to get one of the PC World Mac Minis for €249 and a Logitech DiNovo desktop set for €75 (open box) in Currys. As someone else said, loads of people about but none buying.
