There seems to be a few brands out there including TOP, G&P, A&K, Star and CA. Just wondering what the normal Rate of fire would be like, and what Brands are considered decent.

CA:Good quality, good box mag and good ROF. Just all right all round.

    A&K: A dooer upper.

Star: Plastic gearbox + gun, box mag is apparently horrible. Lighter then the rest though.

Top: I'm not sure but I think this pales in comparasion to the CA version for the price.

G&P: Again I'm not sure, but I think it beats the Ca version based on performance and looks.

    TOP
Never had one myself front reviews and forums seems to have a few problems but a nice range of models if you willing to put some work in.

    G&P
Look good comes in complete packages normal with box mag nicely made good finish, problem is they run on a v2 gear box not the best for the full auto support gunner roll.

    A&K
Clone of the ca models very nice for the money fun very hot and you will need to have them downgraded before getting them imported, the gearbox has a quick release spring in the gear box so this is not a massive thing to get done email some shops boomarms did the work for free when i purchased mine. as all clones it does have some issues and problems and will normal need work i would say your best bet is to read fareasts excellent review over at arniesairsoft will tell you pretty much everything.

    Star
There like marmit people love or hate them, there plastic but good quality so there light, with the influx of clones into the market this have seen a market decrease in price and very cheap on the second had market, they are very much an acquired task but some people do like decrease in wight over the full metal versions on the market.

    CA
Very nice models as with all CA products qc is good and there finish and material are top draw, a big down side is that you have to purchase a box mag separately, the ca line in the us has seen a massive drop in price making them very competitive although a little of this price drop has found its was to are shores and HK, it is no way in line with the large drops in the US.

I read quotes of 15 RPS, how faithful is that in general. Why get a SAW in the first place unless its going to give you a massive advantage in terms of rate of fire?

    Good info there guys! :)

I'm considering getting one - would love the CA but the price is a bit:eek:

Look's like it will be an A&K for me...

One of the best reviews about, will give you the main areas that need more, be aware thought with all clones cq can mean you always have a higher chance of a lemon or some other problems that you may not be aware of from any of the reviews.

mmm, I wonder if we put in a bulk order - perhaps we'd get em downgraded (I assume it's needed), as a job lot!:D

    Fantastic review!

defenderdude: most places will do the downgrades on the m249s no problem, it only takes about 10 seconds to swap the spring

Boston: from what i remember, the a&k m249, fires about 12rps out of the box, which is about the same as a standard aeg, the major advantage with a support weapon in airsoft is they are designed for long bursts of fire and they have box mags to feed them all that ammo
depending on what kind of rate of fire you are aiming for, there are many ways of up'ing it, all with varying degrees of cost, but considering an a&k m249 can be got for the same price as a clone aeg, then installing a few parts isn't that big a deal

How did yours work out kdouglas? A&K m249 if i recall correctly?. I think I saw one of them fall apart mid battle at HRTA one day.

The CA shoots in the 20's.

    And it's FUN!!!!

Interesting, about the CA, notice an approx $200 difference in price between US and HK outlets. Food for thought...

Mine's good, have most of my upgrades installed in it now and it was firing beautifully last week at home when testing, but I think I blew the mosfet, i've ordered new/better ones though and once they are here, it should be back in action. It also needs an upgraded spring, it was 1Joule, but the piston has had some teeth removed (intentionally) so i've had to order some high powered springs to install to bring it back up to 1J

The barrel has a tendency to fall out if you carry it solely by the carry handle though (which is likely what you saw happening), the nub that holds the barrel assembly (including the handle) in place just isn't able to handle the weight of the entire aeg for long periods or while running.

There's also a few minor tweaks it needs such as hopup mods etc... but once they are done, it's pretty good

whats the import duty on large boxes m249 sized anyone know? Need to factor that into the price, can sometimes make it worth just buying in Ireland.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,174 ✭✭✭✭Captain Chaos

It's a percentage of the price of the item and shipping charge plus around €5 handling charge.

When I imported my KJW P226 from HK a year ago, I was charged €22 import duty and €5 handling fee. I think the GBB plus shipping was about €120. So it came to around €150 in the end, plus having to send emails of recipts to customs which is a pain.

So it may be better to buy from our local retailers depending on the model your after.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,261 ✭✭✭Puding

Duty is normally a semi fixed amount with customs a % of the total amount including shipping and the normal post office charge on top, you have not choose but to buy the a&k from abroad and have it down graded before it is shipping at present.

I do like my A&k but a lot of work has ben done to it and for that cost you could have gotten the classic army from the start with a nicer finish and better materials.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,414 ✭✭✭kdouglas

Puding: What have you had to buy for the a&k? most of the fixes necessary to make it run better shouldn't cost a thing? There's a few minor mods such as the hopup and the magwell, and then re-shimming the gearbox, but none of them should need replacement parts

I've spent a fair bit on my one alright, but that's because i've completely rebuilt the gearbox with all upgraded parts, so it's actually got better internals now than a CA would

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,261 ✭✭✭Puding

Well depends how far you want to go with the upgrades, first i had to replace the stock as the top tube where it connects with the butplate snapped, the joint was bad but as with all clones this problems are not consistent and more than likely was a one off.

I also replaced the gearbox and rewired after about 2 months, but that was my choose so for what i did to it in the end would have been cheaper or the same to get CA right away.

The gear box was the main expense but that was my choose along with new TB and hop-up unit, where as others may just be happy with a reshim but down to personal preference there.

    Ha ha ha!
    I remember that:D
Nah he was holding the Saw by the wrong part and it needed tightening anyway
Otherwise it's a beast to play with
I had to hold myself back from running away with it that day
    :p
