    Hi all,

Bought my mam a Fujitsu Siemens Notebook for Xmas but can't connect to the internet, we are dial up confined as we live in the middle of nowhere and it turns out the pooter has no in build modem (am less than tech savvy so didn't know to consider this when purchasing)

Can anyone advise where I'd buy a compatible external modem for dial up? laptops Direct.ie and the FS helpline were both less than useful,

    Many thanks and Happy Christmas

Without telling us what part of the country you're in: Maplins & PC World.

It might be worth putting a requested in Wanted Computer Hardware on adverts.ie - should work out cheaper
Otherwise, http://www.marxcomputers.ie/ seem to be the cheapest (Before P&P)

There is one here (go to Communication, Analogue modem) for a USB modem for 35 euro. Peats have some also and I'm sure there are other places too. Odd that the laptop didn't have a modem with it, I always thought most have some along with the Ethernet like the picture here (modem on the left side)

Nowadays, a 56k modem is rare - to save on weight, power and price. They're considered obsolete. Too bad we're in Ireland where they're not obsolete.
